07/11/2023 08:14 | Morning Winos. Jeffian. I hope you store it upright as the acid will kill the cork apparently. Another piece of bad news is that Madeira doesn’t age in the bottle, so cork withstanding it will be no better today than when bottled. Sadly. | james japp
07/11/2023 07:56 | Good morning all. On another wine (& food) related matter, avatars may recall that I did a wine tasting activity with the Sommelier at that there IKOS. I arsked why all the wines on the lists were in a very similar price range within about €10 or so. She explained that Spanish law requires them to price all items on the menu but the price is immaterial because nothing is actually sold. They therefore found that when at first they put more realistic prices on the dishes or wine, everyone automatically ordered the most expensive items assuming that they would be better. Hence the current listed prices are just ‘made up’ | monte1

07/11/2023 00:26 | It just feels right. I'm a big buyer at 15p and 20.4p. got 3.025m now. What will be will be. Each to their own. 59% mgt s/h. we've just got to see what happens. | paulypilot
07/11/2023 00:19 | just below notifiable 3% level, well done mate. If there is a T/O, anything over 1% is notifiable. | chutes01
07/11/2023 00:17 | We're off to the races here I think. 3.0m shares. Very satisfactory. | paulypilot
07/11/2023 00:08 | to return to 300 mio valuation from here is 15 bagger, it will happen and it may be very rapid it should never have fallen below 40p, Liontrust sold out, re-rate will be quite a ride. | chutes01
06/11/2023 23:54 | I would remind Cabaliers that I still have a bottle of Malvasia Madeira Solera 1914 which I purloined from my late sis-in-law's cellar. Maybe we should all have a Beeksy tasting and put the Madeira argument to bed once and for all? | jeffian
06/11/2023 23:45 | Are we about to have a Dunderheed-esque debate about Madeira? Bring it on! (Maybe he'll come back; I'm sure he "knows" all about it). | jeffian
06/11/2023 23:44 | I have very much learned something, James. When I first encountered Madeira, each Duke was a particular wine e.g. Duke of Clarence: Malmsey, as per the image. I don't think Blandy's even sold anything less than 5 years old. They seem to have gone downmarket in pursuit of the almighty dollar. | grahamite2
06/11/2023 23:20 | bloomberg2, that's incorrect. They sold the POS-GRIP IP for jackup exploration (which is what made all the profits in the last oil boom) to Technic. They kept the rights to a few countries (Russia, CIS) and the rights to develop it for production and P&A. It looks like they're trying to reenter the jackup area so they've clearly developed something that is outside the sale non-compete clauses but Technic's POS-GRIP is most definitely a competitor. I hold POS but am under no illusion that winning business against Technic in the jackup field will be easy. It's no coincidence that the contract wins announced have been for plugging & abandonment and not exploration IIRC. | wjccghcc
06/11/2023 23:09 | It's only £20m mkt cap. Sorry, I don't find that exciting. Back in 2016 this was £300m mkt cap. Similar no shares in issue. | paulypilot
06/11/2023 22:59 | ...p.s. Jerome Powell used to work for them (some say still does!). CVC are pretty big too I think. Should have plenty more business than this small contract win maybe. | source
06/11/2023 22:56 | Carlyle are a huge private equity shop. | source |
