Headline: CableLabs' many hands make light work - at four terabits per second

Link: hxxps://www.theregister.co.uk/2018/07/05/cablelabs_coherent_optics_standard/

Quote from the original blog at CableLabs:
- cable operators now have a means of cost-effectively meeting ever-expanding consumer demand over their existing fiber access networks, and one which also provides the opportunity to provide new services like 5G small cell backhaul and enhanced business services.

Seeking Alpha - ARRIS Q1 2018 Results - Earnings Call Transcript

James Kisner - Loop Capital Markets LLC
...
And l guess, also related to that is you talked about shortages. I'm just wondering if you could give us a little more color there. Are these components that are very specific to your CPE portfolio or just very components that are used across all of tech? And is there any kind of conditions could be lasting and maybe put that $1 billion number at risk so that you called it out for a reason? Any color there would be helpful. Thanks.

Bruce William McClelland - ARRIS International Plc

The shortages that Dave mentioned are in a couple of specific areas. If you're kind of following the industry, obviously, just kind of the continued pressure on memories is continuing and consistent but we're seeing a few other components like multilayer ceramic capacitors and LCC as another area where all of a sudden in the last kind of 90 to 120 days lead times have stretched out. And that's not something specific to our product. These are very common components but have all of a sudden tightened up due to kind of material substrate shortages and things like that. So, there's a variety of components similar to that. But, of course, you're always kind of chasing. But has stretched out on a few of our products and it could have some modest impact on the number here this quarter. It's a little hard to gauge until we're completely done, but we thought it was worth calling out.

David B. Potts - ARRIS International Plc
Yeah. That's right.

Saw that before market open on Monday & took it as a blatant attempt to manipulate the share price. At the end of the day almost anyone can have an article published on Seeking Alpha - you don't need to be a well respected commentator to get something out there.I'm personally more concerned about MLCC shortages & hope that Arris have had the foresight & have enough clout to secure supplies.

Wow!! We are all doomed Mr Mainwaring!!
This is based upon a doom scenario assuming that there is massive cord-cutting.
They have been saying this for years but today's CPE are not just STBs - they are Home Gateways and perform a lot more tasks than just decode Video streams to a TV set.
He has not mentioned the Cloud business and focuses on memory pricing as the catalyst for reducing margin - Arris has already made it clear that they are in dialogue with their customers to mitigate the impact of memory prices on the margin.
I would love to see a response from Arris.
The author makes no secret of his short position on Arris!!!
