16/10/2024 06:35 | Good morning. Just stopped raining and too dark to see what's happening. Poor and deteriorating numbers from Just Eat, Sanderson Design, Zytronic, Money Supermarket, Broadbent (Executive search). Not great from Whitbread. It seems to be getting worse? | aleman
15/10/2024 16:45 | I finished up 0.03%. A largely bright day @12C. Fingers crossed for you DF! | skinny
15/10/2024 16:38 | I'm down -0.122% on the day today (FTSE100 -0.523%). Worst falls: WDS -5.89%, BP. -3.89% and SHEL -3.36%. Best rises: TATE +5.23%, TW. +2.17% and UU. +2.00%. Oils and miners had a bad day. Somebody said to be sniffing round TATE. Got some washing done today, to ensure that I have enough socks to last me the duartion of our cruise. Outpatients appointmment at the Hospital tomorrow. I need a chest X-ray first, so will get that done before lunch. Hopefully I will be discharged from their care. DDF | deanforester
15/10/2024 16:29 | Up 0.15% Best risers FNX,CPI,RR,TW> Worst fallers 3IN,BP.EMG,RIO,ENT, Stayed grey and damp all day, supposed to get to 20C tomorrow, will wait and see. | malcolm caton
15/10/2024 16:13 | -0.3%. BEG had another bad day of almost -3% for no reason. A grim day - grey with a little drizzle that made me abort cutting the grass for a second day after managing another 1/3rd. There were a lot more leaves this time. I went for a walk and saw leaves dropping everywhere. All the hawthornes are bare now which is a bit weird and the plums and cherries are nearly there. Spring was a couple of weeks late and now autumn seems a couple of weeks early - oh, joy. When does this warm spell start? Also, foot, cycle and road traffic was dead. It seemed eerily quiet at times. Hopefully, that's just weather but it won't help struggling businesses. 12.7C after 6.9C. | aleman
15/10/2024 16:12 | Down 0.07% 17-14 to the blues but VLX/CREO were the two biggest movers and they fell. 3 hit new YTD lows. I only have Barc at (or near) a YTD high. Feels more like a bear market than a bull one. | dr biotech
15/10/2024 16:08 | Portfolio -0.14% , top losers RSW (no idea why , maybe a dodgy trading update next week) , BP and SHEL . Gainers ULVR, MKS and NG. Weird weather , cold and damp this morning then all of a sudden with the sun peeping through this afternoon up to 17C. Changed into shorts and t-shirt for an afternoon walk. Nobody about. Slow cooker been on today with diced beef, carrots , swede, onions , bay leaf and rosemary ...dumplings and potatoes to add. Bottle of red. Good film on Amazon Prime last night, 'A Killer's Memory' with Michel Keaton. | philanderer
15/10/2024 16:01 | -0.22% folio, [FTSE All-Share -0.36%] WDS, BERI, HICL, GLEN, SREI, STAB, RIO, NESF, worst fallers, energy and mining plus a mix of other sectors. ADVT, ENSI, JSG, PLUS, leadingg gainers. Cloudy all day, 14C from 12C | blueliner
15/10/2024 15:59 | US-based owner Walgreen Boots Alliance said it will shut 1,200 US stores over the next three years after losses widened for the past year. Citi pressing on with 20,000 job losses over two years. If these are the good times, what are the bad times like? | aleman
15/10/2024 15:56 | Pleasant surprise to see a small +0.19% gain today thanks to top risers SSE, SAE & NG. Be interested to see how any NI will get applied to pension contributions as salary sacrifice doesn't go through the normal payroll system. Sounds like Big Brother will be coming out to play! | mrphil
15/10/2024 15:42 | Canada September CPI 1.6% from 2.0% and 1.8% expected. Another one overshoots target to the downside. Canada's PPI in August fell from 2.8% to 0.2% versus 2.7% expected. PPI has been negative monthly for the last 3 months. Where's this inflation they are all still fighting? | aleman
15/10/2024 15:28 | I've given in. It's hit 17.0C in the house so I've put the heating on early. I'm surprised I can tolerate down to 17C before I hit the button. Normally, it would be 20C in the early weeks of autumn but it's been such a lousy, cold, wet, grey year that I've never had to get accustomed any summer warmth. | aleman
15/10/2024 11:02 | I have a few gainers this morning but BP. & HFEL are spoiling the party. The latter are actually up on the day according to advfn but they have dropped the sell price so are well down on the portfolio screen. | mrphil
15/10/2024 09:27 | Aleman, I would have already done it but it's not that easy when you have your own business! I see there was another big monthly jump (+24.4%) in sales of new EV's, although PHEV's had an even better month. September 2024 EV Reg Data * 2024 2023 % Change Mkt Share '24 Mkt Share '23 Battery Electric Vehicle (BEV) 56,387 45,323 24.4% 20.5% 16.6% PHEV 24,486 18,535 32.1% 8.9% 6.8% | mrphil
15/10/2024 09:23 | Morning everyone. Still grey and murky. Not a day for drying washing. Portfolio being hit by yet another down day for oil and miners. I have eleven in common with DF. | philanderer
15/10/2024 08:53 | The number of people unemployed dropped to 1.386m, a fall of 141,000 in the quarter. This number is absolutely meaningless when there were 5.8m of working age on out of work benefits at the start of the year - a rise of 2.3m in 6 years. Within the growing 9.3m "economically inactives", there are 1.85m people who want a job but are not in the unemployed figures! The number retired before 65 has fallen 3% in the last year and the number working past 65 is up 8%. Are people deferring retirement because they want to or because they need the money? | aleman
15/10/2024 08:25 | I hold three in common with DF - AV. LLOY & S32 | carpingtris
15/10/2024 08:07 | Morning I have 11 in common with DF, used to hold another 5 but sold for various reasons. Dreary and dark, need to alter the timings on some indoor light switches. | blueliner
15/10/2024 07:51 | I only hold 2 in common with DF, probably why he beats me every year :) A bit warmer than yesterday morning, 5c today as opposed to 0c yesterday. Cloudy but dry at present. My oilers taking a hit this morning wllm :) | wllmherk
15/10/2024 07:07 | Good Morning. Dry, but very grey here with some early mist. | skinny
15/10/2024 07:04 | Aleman, the new employment laws being touted are a potential disaster. The latest minimum real living wage was already a huge barrier to taking on new staff early in order to "build" a role, but if it doesn't work out it will now be extremely difficult to part ways. So if they are stopping businesses from taking on new staff, I'm not sure how that is going to get the "growth" they keep claiming to want. | mrphil
15/10/2024 06:57 | Morning, Damp start to day again, temps forecast to rise later, Also hold 11 in common with DF | malcolm caton
15/10/2024 06:48 | Good morning. High cloud, mild and dry. I had to give up on the lawn for being too wet and clogging the mower, yesterday evening, but I might be able to get it finished today. Very poor updates from Robert Walters and Slingsby and very weak Bellway numbers. And certain people think the economy is ok? Even Victoria Plumbing is closing its Doncaster site and it's been taking market share. It's still more jobs lost up here. | aleman
15/10/2024 06:46 | DF I also have 11 of those! This is interesting and I'm pleased to say our local tip (sorry, recycling centre) does now accept small electrical items. | mrphil
14/10/2024 18:32 | I'm up +0.602% on the day today (FTSE100 +0.473%). Best rises: TATE +2.61%, SSE +2.40% and BA. +2.32%. Worst falls: WDS -0.90%, LLOY -0.50% and BLND +0.42%. The oils were unhappy, as was the bank ahead of the Budget. Somebody asked what I held in my portfolio.
