09/10/2024 08:49 | Morning everyone. Skinny, some great pictures there. Gateside used to love going in the mountains in Spain I remember. I think that was in his last post that he said he was going. Perhaps he has stayed out there ? Blue start so far, the first in eight days. | philanderer
09/10/2024 07:59 | Some excellent pictures :- . . | skinny
09/10/2024 07:22 | Good morning. It's rained quite a lot overnight but just stopped. Gateside got out onto the big hills a lot so should be quite fit, but his absence does worry. Chance of hitting Florida with winds of 74mph+ has increased marginally to about 60%, so still looking like fading to a weak Cat 1 hurricance. Rain of of 12 inches plus is not high for a hurricane. I've experienced over 20 inches. The storm surge of 10-15 feet is likely to be the biggest problem. That still suggests a Cat 2 storm at landfall with the angle of attack slightly increasing the surge. Satellite suggests a Cat 2 or Cat 3 hurricane currently. Ventusky, oddly, suggests Milton has weakened to a tropical storm with 56mph peak wind. Kirk has deteriorated into just a squally weather front now as it hits northwest Spain. 47mph peak wind. | aleman
09/10/2024 07:11 | I've messaged him a couple of times and no response. I'm not getting a ping back so the email is being delivered to his account. If he has died it may take time for family to sort out his estate and access things like his email so maybe we will hear at some point in the future. In the meantime I'll leave him in the standings until we start afresh next year. wllm :) | wllmherk
09/10/2024 06:35 | Still no sign of Gateside - should we fear the worst? | skinny
09/10/2024 06:26 | Good Morning. A pulse in the MARS update. As I asked earlier in the week, surely this area is on the way to becoming uninhabitable for several months of the year? | skinny
08/10/2024 16:51 | Portfolio -0.58% and that's seven red days in a row. Good rise for IMB and smaller ones for HLN, MKS, NICL and TSCO. Pretty well red for the rest. A few hefty showers but good sunshine around lunchtime when it reached 17C, Still getting away with shorts. Did some cutting back in between he showers. A local walk late on and the umbrella was needed. Started watching detective series 'The Confession' with Martin Freeman on Netflix last night, Good start. Bangers and mash and carrots and gravy tonight. Bottle of red. | philanderer
08/10/2024 16:42 | -0.9%. BEG, CLIG and PLUS all managed to close up slightly. General momentum was the other way, though. Went shopping at SBRY. Not so busy on roads or in store. Several items were out of stock. Some new pricing saw discounts offered off even higher prices and some prices were just higher. How do they justify regularly increasing prices on the prices they lifted when food commodities went up but did not reduce when they came down? Fuel consumption improved on the car again, with just 1/3rd of a tank of E5, to 44mpg. Another 1/4 now looks to be pushing it up about the same again so far. I still find the difference between the two grades quite remarkable. A what car test showed 5-10% difference for a number of small hatchbacks - little like the theoretical 2% we were originally told - but I'm noticing it more in the Suzuki, too. In the big car, with its tall top gear, the difference is consistently over 15%. Rained early on but brightness and warmth slowly won out. It would have been a nice day if not so sticky . 16.3C after 11.7C. | aleman
08/10/2024 16:26 | I'm down -0.816% on the day today (FTSE100 -1.361%). Worst falls: RIO -4.83%, BHP -4.47% and BP. -3.71%. Best rises: IMB +4.10%. RKT +1.03% and SMDS +0.75%. Miners and oils hit big, but thanks to IMB and RKT for healthy rises. Time to eat. DF | deanforester
08/10/2024 16:16 | Aleman, definitely some similarities there! Looks like you lot faired better than me today, -1.10% BP., LLOY & RIO being the worst hit but just about everything red. | mrphil
08/10/2024 16:03 | I finished down 0.53%. Bright for the most part after a damp start @17C. | skinny
08/10/2024 15:53 | Down 0.69% Worst of fallers SNR by a mile, though BHP.RIO.BP didnt help. Out of 54 stocks only 10 were blue, best were ZOO.CPI,UTLP. If this carries on till budget day I am heading towards a negative YTD figure :LOL | malcolm caton
08/10/2024 15:45 | -0.98% folio, miners friendless.[FTSE All-Share -1.31%] BHP -4.6%, RIO -4.7%, HSBC -4.3%, WDS -3.2%, BERI -2.44%, GLEN -4.6% worst fallers. DFCH, SPEC, PLUS, lonely gainers. Showery rain at times. Max 16C. | blueliner
08/10/2024 15:39 | Down 0.35% Could have been worse. MEGP biggest value loser though LORD gets a special award for a 7% drop. One of my worst timed investments and I’ve made plenty. Spec & ULTP only two worthwhile risers, but all helps. | dr biotech
08/10/2024 15:30 | Worrying that this is happening there (Vietnam) as well as here. This sounds like the Vietnamese equivalent of MrP interviewing! | aleman
08/10/2024 15:22 | Its not looking good out there - not much blue. I just paid £126.9p for petrol - looking at the BP share price - perhaps I should have waited! | skinny
08/10/2024 15:10 | Nice little rise from CUSN but sadly only amounts to around a fortieth of todays losses! | mrphil
08/10/2024 14:58 | Probably why my broadband failed again - ggrrr! Does nothing in this country ever work right!? Of course, all falls are China's fault and nothing to do with recessionary news from Vistry, SUS, Senior and fashion stocks all realising that Shein's 40% rise in UK sales means all their sales losses that are not likely to be temporary after all. | aleman
08/10/2024 11:26 | phil, thanks for that. Probably why the sun has gone in too! 😁 | mrphil
08/10/2024 10:20 | Chinese stimulus is underwhelming apparently. Therefore my shares in AV are down and the same reason that my train was cancelled this morning. Well it probably makes sense to someone. Feels like I haven't had two up days in a row for months. Would help to get the budget out of the way. | dr biotech
08/10/2024 10:19 | MrP , China again European shares went into reverse early Tuesday, as the lack of new stimulus in China disappointed the market China said on Tuesday it was ‘fully confident’ of hitting its growth target this year but held off announcing more stimulus measures, leaving markets disappointed. Beijing has struggled to reignite business activity as officials target around 5% expansion, which analysts say is optimistic given the numerous headwinds, from a prolonged housing crisis to sluggish consumption and local government debt. All eyes were on a news conference led by Zheng Shanjie, head of China’s National Development & Reform Commission, on Tuesday, and investors hoped Beijing would unveil more economy-boosting policies. But Zheng and colleagues refrained from laying out any new stimulus, instead reiterating that ‘the fundamentals of our country’s economic development have not changed’. 08/10/2024 09:50 | So what has happened to cause today's drop? | mrphil
08/10/2024 09:33 | Morning everyone. Very wet and portfolio slumping for seven red days in a row. Good win for The Bantams and Cook's headed goal getting a special mention on the radio report last night. | philanderer
08/10/2024 08:28 | Milton is Cat 3 according to Ventusky and peak wind speed on Yukatan so far is 60mph so looking a bit weaker than yesterday's predictions for the time being. Kirk is headed for France. Peak sustained wind is 59mph and weakening. | aleman |
