The job market is getting much worse and exessive wage increases, the main reason given by the B of E for not cutting rates, has gone. And when did this recession really start?(See graph.)

February survey data signalled further increases in rates of starting pay for both permanent and temporary workers, as employers raised rates of pay amid the higher cost of living and competition for highly-skilled candidates. However, the rate of salary inflation was the slowest recorded in nearly three years, with a number of recruiters noting that employer budgets were now tighter after a period of rapidly rising pay. Temp wage growth also moved further below the long-run trend level during February.

Neil Carberry, REC Chief Executive, said:

“As inflation is falling back to target earlier than expected, it’s time to get the focus on growth. This month’s survey shows the market slowing, and a concerning increase in the decline in temporary billings, to the lowest performance since the middle of 2020. Given recent news about GDP dropping, this overall picture is no surprise – but it is certainly still quite resilient by comparison with previous recessions. We know the economy has the potential to create jobs and opportunities – but it can only do that sustainably if we can get economic growth going.

“Following the Budget last week, which didn’t address some of the key drivers of growth like skills, infrastructure and reducing the cost of investment and employment, all eyes are on the Bank now. Lower interest rates will help build firm’s confidence to invest.

B of E policy looks increasingly out of line with the market. Gilts yields seem to be suggesting 2% off in the next 12 months and 0.5% the year after before levelling out. Why not get on with it rather than detroying jobs and the supply chain? Is it time for an emergency rate cut of more than 0.25%?

Further evidence that interest rates are too high is the rise in Sterling close to a 2-year high v the US dollar (which might bring an even bigger undershoot in CPI than current forecasts from the private sector). The B of E is supposed to be politically neutral but seems to be setting itself up for some very large rate cuts as Labour gets in.

Aleman, oh dear. I forgot my wife's birthday about 30 years ago, she still remembers and brings it up now and then. I only realised a couple of days later when she was more grumpy than normal, I asked why the long face, it went downhill from there. Women eh :)

The only positive I can take from the Terriers 1-4 defeat is that I didn't wake up in time to watch it.
I don't think the new manager knows either the players or Championship soccer. I heard that the captain was arguing with him when he was been subbed...that is a very bad sign if true.
I see Warnock's available .. wonder which of the potential relegation teams will hire him?

Portfolio was hit by RIO & BLT both going ex dividend for large amounts.
Renewables were slightly up on the week.

My portfolio seems to be missing out on the few 'up days', and is treading water at present.

A walk in the mountains somewhere tomorrow, if I can manage to get out of the cold east wind.

Then on Sunday I'm taking our daughter to a music festival, where she is playing the clarinet.

Portfolio slightly down on the week and is now -5.00% YTD

Enjoy your weekends :)

Bitterly cold today, 6c, but feeling much colder with an Easterly breeze blowing in from the North Sea. Feels like Winter and cold enough for snow. My wife's car passed it's MOT today with just one advisory, a worn shock absorber, waiting on a price from a local indepedent garage to supply and fit.

I'm in the 28% bracket, we remortgaged in April 2020, despite being mortgage free at the time, and bet the house on the stockmarket. we have since paid off half the mortgage, current deal runs out 2027, but, at 1.69% happy to make the allowed overpayments each year.

A reasonable week on the markets:

Best Riser: SUPR +4.79%
Worst Faller: VSL -6.09%

On the week: +1.05%
YTD: -1.97%

Tennis tomorrow depending on the weather, looks a bit too windy, have a nice
weekend gents.

Virtually unchanged on the week +0.02%, all the sweat that goes into it with no reward.
I bought some ADVT, a platform acquirer of software co's currently loss making or going nowhere. Revealing how she (Vin Murria) snapped up 5 businesses from CPI, my faller of the week by the way. (info from SCSW.)
Also bought some SREI for dividend and sanity -:)

Folio YTD -3.28%

Feels cold out there enjoy your weekend.

Mr P absolute scandal that tiny Esthwaite Water can be polluted like this, disgusting, I sold all my long held UU. shares about the same time as you did.

Another good week in the markets - two in a row!

+2.16% this week again mostly due to DLG and there continued rise - will a takeover happen soon and at what price? Interesting time..

AV. LLOY also helping this week and very nearly at B/E for LLOY. might let them go if they get into a profit for me.

My funds have also had a decent week.

YTD is now +2.64%

Good weekend all :)

I finished up 0.16%, +0.95% on the week and -4.08% YTD.

I think a lot of us are of a similar age and of similar views about the state of the Country, NHS, transport, politics - in fact everything that we used to take for granted.

Where oh where do we put our trust and our vote?

Enjoy your weekend!!

Portfolio +0.24% mainly down to RKT, SGRO and VOD.

+0.38% for the week , making -3.81% YTD

Plenty of sunshine but a bitter cold easterly 10C , felt like 2C.

Got the lawns cut and that's smartened things up. Sowed my alicante.

QPR v Middlesbrough tomorrow . Yet another demonstration with the flags and masks in London tomorrow, hopefully nowhere near Shepherds Bush or using the Elizabeth Line.

England v Ireland in the rugby.

Hike on sunday if it's not raining.

Good weekend everyone.

3/7 on the quiz, all guesses.

I'm up +.129% on the day today (FTSE100 -0.425%) and up +0.22% on the week (FTSE100 -0.30%), but down -1.99% YTD (FTSE100 -0.95% and HIX -2.72%).

Best rises: SMDS +53.17%, BLND +2.45% andf LGEN +0.96%.

Worst falls: GSK -2.23%, RIO -2.13% and PSON -1.88%.

DS Smith rising towards the Mondi proposed swap arte. No idea why GSK fell so much.

Got my stuff to the dump, where two very heldful attendants helped my dispose of the bags. A nice day, but forecast suggests that the weather goes downhill again.

Now to have a look at Qualifying in Saudi.

Enjoy the weekend.

Closed at the days low. My shares seemed to move without rhyme or reason this week. Up or down - I could not guess which way or why. Well down mostly. -0.6% today. YTD -5.6%.

Sun came out around 3pm - just in time to get cold. I managed to cut the grass in 3 layers and gloves before that and was still cold. 9 bags was a lot for a first cut. Looks good though. 8.4C after 4.6C. Only 5C now.

Have a good weekend, all.
