Morning All.

Will be out shortly to spend the day with both grandkids, and then out all day on the boat tomorrow so won't be seeing the screen until tomorrow night.

The SIPP is just the wrong side of the line this morning but the only real faller is NG. which is due to going xd

Has the Bank of Japan said it will sell its shareholdings, as well? It's one of the biggest holders of Japanese stocks now. It's buying has been supporting the market.

Down quite a bit today. -0.46%, knocking the month of May off the top spot making it is now my second best month of the year after January. VED is the highest value faller and BBA the highest value riser but splitting hairs with CLIG.

My Folio has gained exactly 25p today, which proves my decision to go to the Derbyshire Dales was the right one.

Had a very enjoyable 11.5 miles circular walk in the White Peak centred on Bakewell, sunny 19C max.

Very odd day, I had 12 falls and 25 rises, yet I was down -0.020% on the day (FTSE100 -0.089%).

Worst falls: S32 -3.98%, RIO -2.53% and BLT -2.45%.

Best rises: GSK +1.82%, MARS +1.42% and INDV +1.31%.

The miners obviously had a bad day. I had a pub lunch. I think that I had the better deal, as I also had a pint of "Long Blonde" from Long Man Brewery. A very nice drink.

Markets seem pretty sanguine about the possibility of a Corbyn victory.
However good electioneering involves giving the impression you are under pressure even when you are not, this gets the vote out.

We will see how Corbyn performs in the leaders (minus May) debate.
The Conservative campaign has been based on trying to put across BxxxSxxx imho.

I still say the US is doing quite OK.

Down a few £s.

Lovely day. Warm in the sun. Cool in the shade. Slight breeze for fresh air. 22.3C

Up to about 20 bees and getting buzzed (amiably) all over. Both No.2 and No.3 decided to go crunching the flowers to play with the bees despite being told not to. They made bit of a mess. It should hopefully recover in a few days but they discovered dad was not happy!

Funny old day, with the SIPP having a reversal late on and ending the day -0.05% due to UU., LLOY & BP. whereas AMS single handedly took the pot to +0.3%

Off out to dinner this evening.

Glad you liked Sicily, Shadowside. My sister is planning to retire to Italy in about 5 years and friends of ours have just bought a home to semi-retire to, so I expect we'll be getting to know it better. My last holiday was two weeks near Rome in 2009.

Big US retailer misses already abysmal forecast:

Welcome back Shadowside, sounds like you had a great time. A decent performance YTD too!

Aleman, talking of cinema, we went to see a film on Monday and were among a total of 7 people watching that particular film! Whisky Galore with Eddie Izzard and I have to say he was pretty good. Harmless entertainment on a rainy Bank Holiday morning!

Might be making a few minor changes to the SIPP to reduce the number of holdings a bit. May have lost patience with BMS after taking a hit on half and the remainder only just in profit. May take the small profit on TEF as that's been hard work and was wondering about calling it a day on CTO but don't like today's drop so may wait.

Good morning,

Lots of garden growth here too.I cut the asparagus just before we left and spears are now 4 foot tall. No point in cutting back and assume will establish good root system for next years crop. The heatwave tested my self watering system to its limits. All the trays were dry but just enough residual water for plants to survive.

Enjoyed Sicily although driving there is not for the faint hearted especially as its the first time I have driven a manual car for 8 years. If you like archaeology there are some wonderful sights. The best roman mosaics in the world at Villa Romana dei Casale ( 10,000 sq ft!!). The best preserved Greek temple at Agrigento. The Greek Theatre at Taormina.....in the footsteps of Trump! The people are warm and friendly and not at all like I had imagined......and some of the young women are stunning. We are back there in Palermo in the autumn but without a car which should make it easier on the nerves.

Pot did OK whilst I was away. Lost a little ground against FTSE but still a respectable +10.3% YTD. Election beginning to look ominous. Conservative campaign has been dire. Do they govern as hopelessly as they campaign??

Blue, it's been a hugely disappointing campaign by the PM, why talk about social care at all and why not use foreign aid monies to pay for it rather than going after my kids inheritance. Talk about an own goal. Totally agree regarding fox hunting, makes the Tories look out of touch. Genuinely starting to worry a bit that Corbyn might do really well........there goes all our gains YTD I would guess.

wllm

PS-Sturgeon and Corbyn talking about £10 an hour minimum wage, how is business meant to pay for that ?

+0.1% today. [FTSE250 -0.17%]

Highest value risers : IGR +3.2%, ALT +9.2%, GSK +1.8%.

Worst value fallers : CLIG -2.6%, GVC +1.2%, IMB -2%.

IMB entering top up territory, regrets that it's outside my ISA as that promised 10% p.a. dividend increase is enticing.
Getting a bit twitchy with the Tories getting bogged down and squandering their 20 points lead, at least back on the Brexit track today. General agreement in my circles that talking about foxhunting is not a good idea at present.

If weather is as forecast, planning Dales walk tomorrow.

Thanks MrPhil. If only I could replicate the performance for the second half of the year. :-)

I started the day comfortably up but ended down by a gnat's whisker. -0.01%. ICP is again the largest value faller as it gives back more of last Thursday's gains. The largest value riser goes, surprisingly, to POG which is my high risk gold play. It's performing quite well for me this year, if a little volatile.

Thank you for the link to the Capita report Aleman. I was interested to note that I hold just 1 of the top 15 payers (BLT), which surprised me a little.

Yes, MrP. Your geraniums look to be close relations. No.2 has just crushed some of ours as he was enticed in by the bees which are making him giddy. We now have a about 5 varieties of bees visiting and are getting 10-12 at a time, including the very attractive smallish shiny black ones with bright orange tails which I think must be these "red-tails". I was thinking the males were a different species.

I see your next article says our native bluebells are Scotch Bluebells. That goes against others' claims they are English or Welsh bluebells. The trouble is, I was was always taught only whisky is Scotch. Every thing else is Scots or Scottish. Times change - maybe I should try to!

-0.2% for me today.

Gradually brightening day after a slightly damp start. 21.6C after 12.6C.
