Crazy. If I were to buy any, I think I'd sell 5% every time it went up 10%, or something like that. How do (did) you buy them, spittingbarrel?

Signet jewellers misses already dire forecast with -11.2%.

Dollar Tree lower guidance

Abercrombie and Fitch misses forecasts

Maybe consumers are putting their money into Bitcoin instead of buying stuff. It's actually gone over $2500 but they can't keep up. :-)

It started about 2C cooler today but it's catching up and now feels hotter thanks to less breeze. It's over 30C in the house.

Surprise, surprise. Q1 GDP gets revised down to a mere +0.2%. Now consider that things seem to have slowed a bit more in Q2, not helped by slightly stronger sterling and oil. Q2 is looking likely to be negative. (Bear in mind the high error in early GDP estimates - second estimate is still probably in the order of +/-1.0% error.)

Wondered why TATE had fallen but then I saw their profits have nearly doubled!

THey must have been expecting slower results at GVC. (No big tournaments this year?) They opened higher.

Morning All.

Warmest day of the year in our back garden yesterday at 25.1°C and a low last night of 12.5°C so just about right. Lovely blue sky again this morning.

OK results from PETS so they'll fall today!

Will it be the central bank that messes the economy up yet again by raising when a cut is increasinlgy ndicated by long bonds (probably due to softening corporate results outlooks/guidance, unexpectedly weak wage trends and weaking tax-take)?

When weaker results first started to appear in H2 2016, credit ratings agencies seemed to be ignoring it and mostly upgrading. Just lately they seem to be doing a lot of quiet downgrades.

Slowing growth seen at GVC (hidden by good betting results), Headlam, Youngs (wet May!?) Another profit warning at Leeds. Costs hit Halford's margins. Still plently of good results, though.

+0.17% today, with the gains dragged down by VED which is the highest value faller for two days in a row now. ECM is today's biggest value riser, thankfully more than covering the fall in VED and almost accounting for 50% of my net gain on it's own. The ratio of risers to fallers is just slightly better than 50:50.

I've made good gains so far this year and I am thinking that now is the time to start unwinding some of my more risky positions, especially with the lighter volume over the summer months which often gives rise to much sharper price volatility.

I'm up +0.176% on the day today (FTSE100 +0.396%).

Best rises: MKS +1.47%, RB. +1.45% and BA. +1.33%.

Worst falls: KGF -7.02%, S32 -1.61% and CLLN -0.83%.

KGF gave an update which upset the market. MKS results were apparently not as bad as feared. There was an intial fall, then a swift reversal. Cash flow reported as improving.

Currently watching the ODI between messages. A good finish by England. SA responding.

Ignoring the NG. consolidation, been a good week so far:
Mon +0.59%
Tues +0.36%
Wed +0.14%

HSBC brokers aren't showing the amended NG. share qty yet on my account but will have to adjust at w/e.

Too true Shadowside, the Pelloponnese back in the late Sixties, the roads were nearly empty, when you got to where you were going you had it all to yourself, even Delphi on another trip.
Hope you find somewhere quieter.

25C here today.

Aleman, I have to admit that normal day to day business does seem to have tailed off a bit. Thankfully we have a number of larger projects keeping us ahead but I'd like to see things pick up generally.

-0.2%.

Hot when walking near tarmac today, despite the wind. 24.9C, Car said 26C on my travels.

A unit is being converted in that Leeds shopping centre so that will leave 5 empty. It was very quiet there today but I think that can be put down to weather.

Not too bad for the SIPP which managed +0.20% thanks to DC., LLOY & UU. but the pot suffered a bit with -0.67% due to AMS settling back a bit and also RR. & MACF.

Trust you're having a good time in Sicily Shadowside, that's somewhere I'm tempted to visit.

Off to the allotment tonight to plant out all the spare Cosmos as I always overdo it with the seeds!

Enjoy, Shadowside. It's 25C in the shade here, too!

Not many results around in the US but still some poor ones in the consumer area.

Ladies fashion chain, Chico's, Q1 2016 revenue -4.7%. Q1 2017 revenue missed forecasts at -8.7%.

Another auto parts company misses forecasts - this one by nearly 30%.

Checking in from Syracuse in Sicily where it is a pleasant 23 degrees in the shade but feeling much hotter in the sun. A couple of observations after 24 hours here.

If the Germans think they will solve the problems of the Euro by bringing places like this up to Teutonic levels of efficiency they are going to have a long wait.People are lovely but everything is chaotic The dead hand of the State everywhere.

Our hotel is a mix of French/Germans/Dutch/Italians. They all converse(with each other not us) in English as the common language. If Junkers thinks Brexit will change that he is truly insane.English is going to be the languageof Europe and there is nothing the EU bureaucrats can do to stop it.They should remermber poor old King Canute.

Visiting tourist sites is not the pleasure it was 50 years ago. In the early 70's I went round places like Olympos,Delphi,Heraklion etc and there was noone else there.Just the sound of birds. Today the Greek Theatre in SyracuseNow was like Blackpool beach. A shame.

Heading inland tomorrow where hopefully it will be quieter.

A shift to more localised production: An opportunity for UK SMEs?

Significant changes in the industrial landscape are seeing a shift back to more localised and regional sources of production. A recent study by the SCRG at WMG, University of Warwick found that 51% of 270 companies survey, had made a conscious decision to increase their manufacturing capacity in the UK, rather than overseas. 80.4% of the companies surveyed were SMEs.

A critical part of a manufacturing SMEs growth, is its ability to work with larger customers. The purpose of our study is to provide insight on the types of capabilities SMEs need to develop to work more effectively with larger customers.

Great Portland Estates say they expect rents to decline further in the next 12 months.

Market uncertainty reducing valuations

The key drivers behind the Group's valuation movement for the year were:

-- rental value decline - in the past 12 months rental values reduced by 1.3% on a like-for-like basis, predominantly driven by a 1.8% decline for offices, offset by an increase of 0.5% in retail rental values.
