I did read someplace that young people are not as keen on playing cricket, similar situation with golf.

Those were the days when the County Championship was strong and players became good by playing. Trueman 800+ overs in a season, Wardle 1200+ overs.

Today there is hardly any cricket during the real summer (it’s mainly what I call pub cricket) there is no real opportunity to develop skills. Moeen only 200+ first class overs.

Surrey appear to be forming the core of the current England team with Burns, Pope, Foakes and Curran in (and out) of the side.

Yes, jackdaw, potted meat, this was my dad's favourite for sandwiches, or ham with a huge band of fat. Of course fat was a key ingredient of the diet then, and yet fewer people were overweight.
I recall a 'Letter from America' from the journalist Alistair Cooke where he talked about the healthy eating trend sweeping through the USA at that time (this was probably in the 1980s). He had interviewed the oldest man in America, aged 116 or thereabouts, and when asked for his secret of long life, the man said he'd always been careful what he ate and had kept his diet to 'strictly fried foods'.

Rover, the dog, seems to have stirred the board into some discussion today so I think I'll ask it to contribute again on occasions.

Just a fact, Off topic

it would appear we always have a good England team when there is a good Yorkshire team for example . Willie Watson,Johnny Wardle,Len Hutton,Normand Yardley, F S Trueman and and deep pockets Boycott. Not sure about the Giant of the game Herbert Sutcliffe, thay all played for a few quid a game, the players that that is, Gentlemen got nothing or as they say "Nowt".

Isn't "tripe" something people talk not eat,:-) "Some" on these threads.

I come from a generation that to be "gay" was happy, "grass" was something Dad used to cut and "Coke" we drank. A good funeral send off had a choice of potted meat and a tin of Ham.

Andouillette is not something that I am particularly partial to, just like tripe here in the UK. It’s the texture, and sometimes the smell. On the other hand I love liver and kidneys.

As you say, an acquired taste.

Less cricket and more "Andouillete" as I spend three months of the year in France this is an acquired dish unlike the Huitres.

Hi Getting. Bath was excellent. The Christmas Market is one of the best in the U.K.

Loch Fyne excelled. Oysters and Champers, followed by lobster and a glass of Chablis. Sadly driving.

Bought a few presents and returned to find Melrose picked up in the afternoon after investors realised that nothing much had changed. Melrose won’t sell below what they think Powder Metallurgy is worth. It’s not a great buy for private equity as there isn’t much they can do to improve performance or split the business. I expect Melrose to continue holding, keep developing the business, and make a trade sale next year or the year after.

Just my opinion of course. The Bard of Snoredonia may know better.

getting,

I appear to have just posted under ryelodge, my alternative personality, at least in your mind.

If you send me the name of your neighbour's dog, I'll post later posing as it.

MRO urgently needs to beef up its Investor/ Public Relations and get some heavyweight engineering know-how onto its Board of accountants/lawyers or it will find itself the subject of a sad case study at London Business School.

I'm glad I'm not having Brexitplus for Christmas, the turkey is ever so sad and completely predictable. I like something better served-up for Christmas lunch, a proper turkey, something that you would never have at Bills, yes, a gettingrichslow turkey!

ROFLMAO!

B+, sounds good, I'm on train to York for a meeting with some auditors then a long lunch. I think the guy opposite me is the FD of Leicester City Football Club.

My guess at 198p by year end is no longer possible.

The notion that buyers would be queueing up to buy these businesses is also goingdownhillfast.

Really interesting article in The Times supplement about James Allison, his Nobel Prize for amedicine, and T-cells. Makes me really realise the potential of Syncona.

I Honestly can’t say I’d be upset if the sale didn’t take place for another 12 months. Powder Technology is powering ahead in sales, margins and technology. I believe an immediate sale would be premature and undervalue the division.

Only my opinion of course.
