Good sporting weekend for me. England won 5-0, Tonbridge Angels won 4-0 and a Glaws won 27-14 and up to third.

I hope Exeter beat Bath. But quite honestly I hope everyone beats Bath!!!

Does anyone except Londoners, who don’t count, read the Standard?

Osborne is, and always has been, useless. As much credibility as the war criminal Blair.

Contained in a single edition of the Evening Standard is:
- a front page splash about tomorrow's march to Remain
- a feature page by Tony Blair arguing for another referendum
- an editorial arguing we should revoke Article 50
- a columnist called Emily Sheffield encouraging people to attend the march tomorrow
- a columnist called Charlotte Edwards praising the EU's patience
- an article praising John Bercow
- a cartoon lampooning the UK

I could go on...

The brexit deception, treachery, betrayal, whatever word you prefer, is now entering the final phase. We've had the establishment's phase 1, the campaign of fear and ruin, which failed. This required Phase 2 to be implemented, the unbelievably bad, but only possible, deal, which also failed. We now have Phase 3, the promotion of staying in the single market, while making some pretence of leaving the EU, as if the 2 were separate.
The whole process has been a conspiracy of Mrs May & the EU from day 1. We should all now consider leaving the EU on an individual basis, in whatever way we can.

GKN Aerospace at Renishaw

“In March 2019, global engineering technologies company Renishaw hosted 150 attendees for Manufacturing in Aerospace – The Direction of Travel.

The Open Day, held at the company’s world-class Innovation Centre in Gloucestershire, featured a presentation from Renishaw, alongside talks from Airbus, GKN, Rolls-Royce, Castle Precision Engineering and Sandvik Coromant.

The event led discussions on the future of aerospace and what preparations manufacturers should make to meet the expectations of this growing industry. The 150 attendees were a mix of tier 1 and 2 suppliers, including manufacturing professionals, company directors and shopfloor engineers.

Trevor Higgs, vice-president and head of engineering, Airbus UK gave the Keynote address to provide insight into Airbus’ views on the future of flight. His presentation also focused on the industry’s reliance on manual work and how automation and digitalisation still have a long way to go to make a difference to aerospace.

Paul Perera, vice-president of technology at GKN, Simon Gough-Rundle, civil aerospace chief metrologist at Rolls-Royce, Yan Tiefenbrun, managing director at Castle Precision Engineering and Magnus Ekbäck, vice-president for strategy and business development at Sandvik Coromant, also presented at the Open Day.

“Aerospace is the one of the biggest manufacturing industries in the UK and there are so many opportunities for growth and development,” said Adrian Billingsley, Marketing Coordinator at Renishaw. “Bringing these leading figures of aerospace together, with other like-minded professionals, gave real insights to the industry and opened up the discussion on how we should shape future development.”

Added Paul Maxted, director of industrial metrology applications at Renishaw, who also presented at the event: “Renishaw has pioneered a new generation of aerospace technologies in additive manufacturing and metrology. This technology enables aerospace businesses to manufacture a new generation of bespoke, lightweight and highly accurate parts. Renishaw’s approach to process control has been instrumental in developing innovative technology and the event provided a great environment to share knowledge with the rest of the industry.”

GKN Aerospace news release

“SAFRAN Aero Engines, together with GKN Aerospace and GE Avio was receiving the award for best “Propulsion System” at the Aviation Week Laureates ceremony in Washington DC.

GKN Aerospace Engine Systems has during a number of years worked tightly together with partner SAFRAN Aero Engines and GE AVIO to develop the Open Rotor solution. This program has been run under the European collaborative project Clean Sky and during 2017 and 2018 the engine came to a full engine test in southern France.

We have shown that the propulsion system can deliver up to 20% better fuel consumption at acceptable noise and vibration levels.

Henrik Runnemalm, Director of Research and Technology represented GKN Aerospace Engine Systems at the ceremony and made some comments on the development program:

“The program has brought a number of benefits for GKN Aerospace. Through the program we have developed and strengthened our relation to the SAFRAN organization. The program has also generated technology maturation ranging from design practices, new and novel material data, validated numerical approaches to aerodynamics and solid mechanics. In addition, we have introduced improvements to manufacturing process specifications for laser welding, machining, and more.

We have developed our processes for how to efficiently build demonstrator hardware and we have improved or technology maturation processes. The program has also been used to develop the knowledge in our supplier network of which now newly qualified suppliers are delivering to the GKN in our commercial programs. All internal work has been lead through our technology organization but without all excellent collaborative work from all parts of our organization this would not have been possible to achieve”.

Following the discussion a couple of weeks ago relating to in-wheel electric propulsion vs. drive systems, I contacted GKN ePOWERTRAIN directly for its comments on the subject. I have just received the following

“GKN creates electric vehicle drive systems which are efficient and extend vehicle range, while reducing cost. Using light weighting and disconnect technology systems, GKN is able to provide OEMs with a full package of eDrive solutions, from FWD, RWD, AWD and electric and hybrid applications. GKN is currently working on technology (recently presented to customers and selected media at our annual Winter testing event in Arjeplog, Sweden) that has the potential to improve the range and efficiency of our technology offerings yet further, by adding a two-speed electric vehicle transmission.

GKN believes that in-wheel motors may have benefits for some future mobility solutions, but they currently appear costly, unproven and necessarily significantly increase ‘unsprung mass’ (weight not supported by the car's suspension), which most vehicle dynamics engineers try to minimise, since it negatively affects handling, steering responses and ride quality. Currently we are not aware of any applications of in-wheel motors in series production for mainstream vehicles, but we are monitoring the technology’s progress closely.

GKN systems are active in millions of cars around the world, and we work with over 90% of the world’s OEMs. We are confident that our eDrive systems are the best in the world: our £3bn eDrive order book is testament to this.”

Yertiz, Kier now down 24% in a few days, just after Porky was boasting about his 20% gain. Poor governance being a primary cause. Notice how he still won't answer the questions - I think he is running out of ideas!

Ah, you are alive then, Minerve Mark 2. Time will tell, but the future doesn't seem to be a bright one for Kier. I have several colleagues and good friends working in Liverpool University Hospital suffering the effects of Carillion's demise. The state of the art Pathology development is on indefinite hold with an incomplete white elephant masquerading as the multi million £ development decays and falls apart.

So, which companies do you advocate investors take a stake in? Y'know, the ones with good governance, etc?

And what are the odds on a No Deal Brexit now May has fluffed up her feathers? Must be evens now, ROFLMAO.

Weatherspoons quiet this time of the day?

Kier is nothing like Carillion. No one said it would be an easy ride, and with the morons' circus - Brexit - still in town, I would be surprised if any domestic stock makes any significant headway in the next few months or so.

In 10 years this country will be a nation full of retired and redundant delivery van drivers drinking their sorrows away in Wetherspoons. Well, at least our sports are doing well, so they will have something to watch on Sky whilst they are there.

Some easy money to be made if you are into shorting. Many years ago I dabbled with options trading (put and call) but soon discovered this to be a real mugs game. Manipulation is rife in the markets, the PI is at the wrong end of a long and highly fluid chain and never destined to make good money, unless very very lucky.

Amey, Kier, Interserve all likely to become history.

If you want to make money in this industry, then set up a company that competes with NHS Hospital Estates maintenance and building works. There's a can of worms if ever there was, a huge drain on NHS funding going to an almost Mafia-like run organisation.

Yertiz.

Sadly With Kier it is a can of worms. No one knows what or who to believe, particularly the FD.

Spoke to my brother in law, the civil engineering director, who is currently working with Kier who are one of his contractors. He says they are difficult to work with.

Here In Gloucestershire Amey have lost their county council contract. Staff I know say Amey are a mess. Recently reported that Spanish owner Ferrovial took a €774 writedown on Amey and is looking to sell it.

The whole sector is suffering from very small margins and slow payments from clients with the knock on of slow payments to sub-contractors. Stack of cards comes to mind.

I think this analysis is right on Kier:
"Diabolical results from a diabolical management. Serious questions of corporate governance and mismanagement to be addressed here."
But hold on - isn't this one of Porky's big successes!!?? Surely he wouldn't buy a company with such poor governance, a failed emergency rights issue, and a measly dividend? Would he? Fanboy stock!
