19/10/2010 23:13 | 35 years of dividend growth, all be it that the yield remains low. Measured and careful expansion, and its relatively small size leaves ample scope for growth to continue. And a great Brewer as well. | essentialinvestor
19/10/2010 23:03 | EssentialInvestor, Hi there. Yes the share price has appreciated far more than MARS ytd. But what other metrics are you using wrt your view? If you want a quality momentum stock look no further than CRDA. Their appreciation ytd for a now £2 bln cap company has been pretty staggering. c2i | contrarian2investor
19/10/2010 22:56 | Just have a look at the recent FSTA share price - pick of the Sector imv. | essentialinvestor
19/10/2010 22:19 | If you're trading, maybe, but if you have cash/capital on which you want a return plus the chance of capital growth, this one fits the bill IMHO. | jeffian
19/10/2010 20:44 | yes I know, when I actually look at mars I see firstly they are at my current break even price so there's the psycological aspect of that and there's a 7% divi comming up soon. So in some respects as long as the share price holds or rises and the divi gets paid this is like owning a preference share withou the massive buy and sell spread. well worth holding and certainly not for people who like to pull up their plants to see if they're growning. the other side of all of this is the most boring share price in eternity which literally is like form of torture, it just does nothing. I'm sure people sell out of sheer boredom. | eric gardener
19/10/2010 17:21 | Even better - that particular dessert is called 'Ile flottante' (Floating Island)!! 8-) Meanwhile, back on MARS, I think you're condemned to the long haul here, Eric, and my personal view is that the market is continuing to punish them for the nasty shock they gave to shareholders when they had the Rights Issue which was perceived as too deeply discounted, highly dilutive and, in the opinion of many, not necessary. I don't see much downside on the stock and the divi will be a comfort while we're waiting, but it could be a while yet before we get the rating we feel we deserve. | jeffian
19/10/2010 15:05 | "Owning these is like being stuck on a dessert island." What? Like this? | jeffian
19/10/2010 14:39 | loads of small trades going through not enough volume for this to be a decisive move. just the price being walked up and down here. Just think of the divi. Owning these is like being stuck on a dessert island. | eric gardener
19/10/2010 09:43 | ooooorghhhhh man it should have done something by now | eric gardener
18/10/2010 20:43 | I can't help feeling it isn't just sentiment behind mars here, as the ftse powers upward to 6k the rising tide isn't lifting this boat. Decent recent statement - about as good as a statement can get, actually the last 2 were pretty good and nothing very much happens. | eric gardener
18/10/2010 19:54 | Hi all patient MARS holders Here's an old article from the FT. As I stated previously with the Festive season forthcoming. MARS dining profits should do really well going into 2011 and an share price >£1. Diners behind revenue growth at Marston's c2i | contrarian2investor
18/10/2010 16:21 | And back own again!! | mhw28865
18/10/2010 14:36 | well, low volume and close to 100p price being walked up I suspect. | eric gardener
18/10/2010 11:19 | Any ideas why the spike at 10 am ? Need to break the £1 barrier and stay there! company is doing very well and with another 20 new pub restaurants opening next year and the year after should be a decent long term hold. | mhw28865
07/10/2010 16:25 | Good coverage. Pity the express can't spell. Can't get the staff these days! | evox
06/10/2010 13:18 | Hi all, Patience winning out and good share price reaction to today's trading update. Next step breaking through £1 and holding above it until we can call it support instead of resistance. EDIT: Sadly the timing of my post proved to be near the intra-day high. More to come hopefully as we head towards the Festive period. c2i | contrarian2investor
