Doom and gloom for pubs in uk? Never. Brits' propensity to get totally sozzled will never die. Tenner a pint coming. Or peace deal in ukraine.

I was digging through old articles and found one from This os Money updated on 17 August 2014.

Ralph Findlay - Marstons:

My F-Plan* to save the Great BRitish pub...That's females, family, food and forty to 50-somethings.

Great idea Ralph. Your shareprice is 36.8p your share price then was 144p.
Great job, but you aren't missed.

Recall reading it was closer to 2bn, but a lot of that is not fixed.

They are paying an awful lot on interest payments, I just don’t see given the fact that most peoples disposable incomes have just gone up in smoke, how the share price can be justified.

So gone short, if I am wrong you all you longs can have a good laugh at my expense.

Sadly that's very true. When the company I work for allowed staff to carry their phones while working productivity dived.

Once upon a time many moons ago people put in a proper day's work that was before the era of mobile phones...not any more...today people look at their mobile phones at every opportunity even during working hours...

Not being able to get staff at a decent price causes some pubs to close early.
Youngsters refuse to waitress and clean tables for £12 per hour.
How else would they have the time to check their smartphones all day?

Oil and gas price does not discriminate. Interesting when you look at where most of their pubs are located, they are outside of the South East and London where wages are higher.

The gas and energy problem could go away quickly.
The World is awash with gas and oil.

Many counties want to pump their gas and oil there is lots of it.
The price of oil went to zero just 2-3 years ago.
And gas was dirt cheap, Shel were losing billions.

Russias gas will flow because it is crazy and sell defeating to ban it.
My guess much quicker than we think.

I have significant holding in MARS.
My worry is that the cult of the British pub is in decline.

It seems odd now that the popular soaps, Coronation Street, East Enders and Emmerdale were centred around the community pubs, The Queen Vic, Rovers Return and Woolpack.

An age gone by, never to return.
