how do you buy the global index?
btw, holding these also gets you a vg divi and when you are almost 80, that is quite good.

You buy and hold global index, buy and hold on these doesn't get you a lot
except a lot of volatility

I believe it would have worked with Chesnara yesterday as well...

I have not tried selling and rebuying to extract the dividend - yet
But analysing the patterns for the specific type of hi yield share its becoming a way and this season it was a more profitable way.
I am always open to learning new things...

I dont usually agree with you but I dump 50% on about XD-5 and then buy back shortly before the divi is paid.

I only have a small holding now c 5k shares as I am exiting the UK yielding HY shares.

I haven't fenners as I am talking generally and have little interest in trading the ex dividend date

If traders want to dump excellent shares chasing a short term profit and that leads to lower share prices that's fine by me - can buy more yield for a lower price. I have divis rolling in circa 40 times a year, so usually got cash to take advantage of short term bargains. My own experience is that time in the market proves the real winners.

Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't, fenner. Like tossing a coin. You cannot apply systems to the market,it's far too random.

Dump or short ?

You have missed the point entirely.
The idea floated is , to sell , pre xd and rebuy after once the share price has fallen by more than the xd , thus generating the cash in the account from day one.

The high yielders have just shown it can work. In these 3 cases it could generate More than the dividend. Then back in within hours or days , but with cash to move into something else a month or more early. Thus the dividend cash can be working twice.

The joined up objective would be to find a trail of shares going xd and in the build up to xd , say one per month so that the idea can be repeated over and over thus compounding the dividend.
Alternatively those with vast sums received as dividends could at least collect interest on the time between xd and payout day.

Agreed tuffymat. these high yielders recent results have proved these yields are safe and staying. If people want to dump or short and pay it then so be it.

Yeah the dump and run approach has worked in this sector recently no doubt.

I didn't play it this time around but good luck to those that did. For me these high yielders are a safe buy and hold over the long term so I am happy leaving my money on the table all year round.

Good luck all 👍🏻

Of the high yielders going xd - we discussed here M&G , but you can add to that Phoenix and Aviva that have fallen by more than their xd

Seems there may be a route to more effective dividend gathering

You mean shorting?

MNG has had a strong run compared with its peers and was running out of steam. A retrace to 190p on the cards imo.
