While the EU will carry the burden of the unlimited number of immigrants Merkel wanted to send us, we can issue visas to those who have expertise or abilities to fill short or long term gaps (and also a number under our control for humanitarian reasons).Also, am I correct in thinking all imported goods from outside the EU will cost he UK 17% less?

Britain will cut taxes and slash tariffs under secret plans drawn up by officials to kick-start the economy in the event of a no-deal Brexit.
Sir Mark Sedwill, the Cabinet Secretary, has led a cross-departmental team examining the "economic levers" that can be used to make Britain more competitive.
The plans, which have been drawn up under the codename "Project After", include a series of aggressive policies to help the UK "steal a march" on the European Union.

The EU talks are not going anywhere – let’s table a free trade agreement

It’s been good having three days off from Brexit on this blog. Parliament and the UK media need to remember there are many important tasks and debates we need to have about problems in our country that should not be driven out by endless and repetitious arguments about the terms and timing of our departure from the EU. I seek to make sure my work as an MP is not unbalanced by Brexit which takes up too much Parliamentary time.

Over the last few days there has been little progress with the UK Parliament’s wish to see the Withdrawal Agreement renegotiated. The EU appears to rule out removing the backstop from the Agreement, which in turns seems to rule out Parliament approving it. For some of us it is far more than the backstop that is wrong with the Agreement anyway. Why would we want to sign a one sided agreement giving the EU all it wants, without anything firm on the future partnership which might contain things we want? Far from leaving the EU signing the Agreement means delay in taking back control of our money, our laws, and our borders, with genuine issues about whether we would ever be in full control given the backstop and the financial commitments.

The best approach from here is straightforward. The government has to tell the EU there is no chance of passing the current Withdrawal Agreement, whatever might be offered by side letters, reassurance, clarifications or strengthening of the Political Declaration about a possible future agreement. It is also true many MPs do not want to leave with no agreement, so the government should table a comprehensive free trade agreement. Under GATT rules if the EU agrees to talk about this the UK can then leave the EU on 29 March without needing to impose new tariff and non tariff barriers on EU exports to us, and the EU would do the same for our exports to them. There is a period of up to 10 years to agree a final text of a replacement Free Trade Agreement. There is now a private sector draft, but the government itself could scissors and paste EU/Japan and EU/Canada as the starting text.

Any kind of Withdrawal Agreement would leave the UK very exposed. There would be endless more months of rows with the EU, and rows in Parliament over how the talks should be handled by the UK. Meanwhile the EU could legislate any way it wished to damage UK interests as leverage, whilst continuing to charge us large and unspecified sums for the privilege of more talks.

Lies. That's all we hear about. Both sides put forward their own optimistic/ pessimistic view of what could happen with Brexit. Not sure they were lies. Exactly the same is going on today. To me the remains pessimism far outweighs the leaves optimism. All we hear is could or may. Nobody on either side can categorically state anything. Cliff edge from which we will fall with remainers and soar with leavers. UK growth forecasts blamed on brexit but our growth forecasts are better than anyone else's! No deal will be a disaster. I don't think so. We will all wake up on independence day and we will all go to work, come home, eat our cottage pie and go to bed. We won't notice any change whatsoever in our hum drum lives until the EU payments stop after 2 years and slowly we will see more of our money going into UK services and projects. We will still go on holiday to Europe, we will still be sold tomatoes from Spain. The project fear will have gone back to worry about something else.

bbThe opposition to Brexit, today they say..Brexiteers lied to voters. (Which is not true).I say SNP today do lie to Scottish people. There is no freedom in Brussels. Stay in UK you have a better chance to improve the situation than break up the union something which Brussels love to see that happens.

bb I watch very close all about Independent for Scotland and I can say (in my own opinion) No chance SNP to win the independent vote, with or without a deal.Personally I like you to have a vote, the last one, after Brexit and solve this one's and for all.

EU DECEPTION: How politicians ‘CONSPIRED to keep truth about Brussels AWAY from people'

POLITICIANS in favour of EU integration “conspired” to keep Brussels’ real plan away from people as they knew that the citizens of European nations would "never accept it and willingly surrender their freedoms” to a superstate, a documentary claims.


Prime Minister Theresa May is heading to Brussels today, hoping to reopen negotiations over her Withdrawal Agreement and convince EU chiefs that “legally binding changes” to the Irish backstop are the only way to stop the UK quitting the bloc without a deal. However, according to officials, Mrs May will leave Brussels empty-handed and is braced for a flat refusal from European President Jean-Claude Juncker, European Council President Donald Tusk and other EU figures. Last week, former Brexit minister Dominic Raab suggested that the reason behind the EU’s “intransigence” is that Brussels wants to use the Irish backstop issue to keep the UK closely aligned to the bloc after Brexit.


Mr Raab said: “I think there are certainly some in Dublin, some in Northern Ireland and certainly in the Commission who have seen this as an opportunity to choose the high-level alignment approach to the backstop to control the UK after Brexit.”

However, it is not the first time that the EU and pro-European politicians have been accused of lacking “transparency” and hiding “ulterior motives”.

In 2003 documentary “The Real Face of the European Union”, journalist Philip Day claimed that the politicians who took European nations into the bloc deceived their citizens and "conspired" to keep the truth hidden.

Mr Day said: “Only in 1994, Chancellor Khol’s foreign policy spokesman, speaking on behalf of the ruling party of Europe’s dominant nation, Germany, clearly revealed the true plan.

"The plan is to create a federal European superstate and, into it, will be merged up to 25 ancient European nations including our own.


This new country called Europe will have one parliament, one government, one court of justice, one currency, one flag and one anthem.


"That has been the plan all along but those who favoured it knew that people of Europe would never accept it.

"They would never willingly surrendered their freedoms to become just a province in a vast European superstate. So what did they politicians do?

"They conspired to keep the truth from the people.”

It was British Prime Minister Edward Heath who successfully negotiated the UK’s entry with France's new head Georges Pompidou and took Britain into the EEC – what is now the EU – on January 1, 1973.

In 1975, Labour MP Tony Benn was campaigning against the United Kingdom's continued membership of the European Community and accused Mr Heath of deceiving the British public and making false promises about Brussels.

He said: “Before we entered the Common Market, we were told by Mr Heath that it would be a bigger market.


“It would improve our trade with that bigger market.

“It would lead to a boost in investment as a result of that bigger market.

“It would create jobs for our people and would benefit the regions.

“Now we have had some experience of two and a half years in and what they show is this."
