Paul Dendle8 Dec 2020 3:29PMThe EU's no deal measures will not be aimed at preventing the worst effects of a no deal - they've already done that, the final measures - which they have been reluctant to take are because the are purely punative and will cause a rapid deterioration UK-EU relations and will signal the start of a war of attrition which they beleive they must win. This proves that the EU are afraid of a successful free trading entity on their doorstep - they are afraid a no deal Brexit Britain will present anti EU forces with the living proof that it's no longer fit to compete in a global market - and increasingly counting on Germany to be the breadwinner... OBSERVATIONSSovereigntyA fundamental point must be made when looking at the joint statement issued yesterday evening. The same old tired list of the three sticking points has not changed in months, and they are trotted out as if these are the only barriers to everyone walking away with a signed free trade agreement, smiling. They most emphatically are not. The main problem is not the three items listed every time. The main problem can in fact be summed up in one word: sovereignty.Lord Frost outlined this in his letter to the EU in May and more specifically on 15 November when he wrote: "We are working to get a deal, but the only one that's possible is one that is compatible with our sovereignty and takes back control of our laws, our trade, and our waters. That has been our consistent position from the start and I will not be changing it." He continued his theme in a tweet on 29 November: "But for a deal to be possible it must fully respect UK sovereignty. That is not just a word - it has practical consequences. That includes: controlling our borders; deciding ourselves on a robust and principled subsidy control system; and controlling our fishing waters."If some form of 'trade deal' is agreed in the coming days it clearly will not represent 'taking back control', nor will it produce a fully free, fully independent, and fully sovereign United Kingdom.... Reality will shortly dawn that the makeshift arrangements for the last 40 + years will not continue.
Free banking for all cannot continue.
Businesses cannot run business through their personal account
Charities - which are businesses cannot complain that there should be any delay in their being granted a business account - guess they dont want to pay standard charges.
The world of wimpers will have to wait.

Business rates an issue for many years- then the argument as to who should be entitled and who should set the rates - 90s onwards.
Finally end game.
Who loses ?
since business rate income is now LA income then every LA is stuffed.
LAs pressed for the right to determine the B Rate % - to attract.
Sadly LAs never in the business world thought - were they ever?
Why was any charity entitled to 80% charitable relief on B Rates and given discretionary 20% relief?? They never paid a penny and sold new goods -

Remainers never said there would be no trade deal, you are making things up.

They did say that there would not be trade deals any better than the ones we already had in the EU. and in most instances they would be worse.

This is all history now time to move on.

We shall have a re- boot by the spring, vanishing Covid19, no EU.

Remember Remainers claimed there would be no trade deals, nor any rollover deals(as that simply wasnt possible despite many knowing of the principle of continuity under which those trade deals could indeed be rolled over....)

"The rollover deals signed so far are with countries that make up more than 90 per cent of the UK’s current non-EU trade." (Iceland and Norway signed today)

Remainers proven wrong yet again. Rollover trade deals(new trade deals). Horses for courses as we are getting most of the deals done.

Minerve I love the Dauphiné - worked in Deux Alpes 6 seasons (summer and winter) late 80s. Had a ball but not very career sensible 🙃

Not that in the end that has mattered - brain doctor tomorrow

"The UK and EU have reached agreement on how rules in the Brexit divorce deal will be implemented, particularly in relation to Northern Ireland.

The government says an agreement in principle has been found for issues including border control posts and the supply of medicines.

The government says it will now withdraw controversial clauses in the Internal Market Bill.

However negotiations to reach a post-Brexit trade deal are still ongoing."

"Barnier is French but you should be aware he is also Grenoblois and Grenoble is very near Vizille"

Interesting place Grenoble. I used to work for a company that had offices there and found myself being invited over to 'do stuff'. Some parts of the city never seemed to sleep and there were great restaurants all over the place with some nice romantic places up in the mountains. Weekends were spent at Les Deux Alpes. :)
