27/9/2020 12:14 | A lockdown is the most extreme form of social distancing in the State's armoury. Yet wherever it has been imposed, the virus has simply bounced back to hit us when it was lifted. Some of the most repressive measures, like those imposed in Spain and Israel, have seen the worst outcomes. If lockdowns do not work, what hope is there for lesser measures like the rule of six and pub curfews, which are like fighting off a tiger with a feather duster? | xxxxxy
27/9/2020 11:54 | Minerve 227 Sep '20 - 10:46 - 315563 of 315569 0 1 0 No one should be named until proven guilty by the judicial system. That is not the way it works or ever has worked. Of course you must say nothing that presupposes guilt; but saying "police would like to speak to Joe Bloggs who they think can help them with their enquiries," is perfectly proper and perfectly normal. Anyway the identity of the suspect is not the most interesting thing here. How can someone arrested by two policemen, who were then joined by three more, keep a weapon concealed? FIVE coppers couldn't find a gun - on someone arrested for having ammo, amongst other things? This might be one of those rare cases where "lessons will be learned" could be more than a fatuous platitude. | grahamite2

27/9/2020 11:51 | I see the gammons are still worrying about "commies" when their own ship is now mostly underwater! LOL Talk about a deluded sense of reality! | minerve 2
27/9/2020 11:49 | "Now lets get rid of all the Commies in the teaching profession especially the university lecturers." What, to replace them with boneheads like you? ROFLMAO! | minerve 2
27/9/2020 11:37 | Brainwashing, lol | ignoble
27/9/2020 11:15 | Now lets get rid of all the Commies in the teaching profession especially the university lecturers. Many years ago I stormed out of a lecture because of the lecturer praising Marx and the Communist ideal. I complained to the head who made all the excuses he could and he turned out to also be a hard lefty. | maxidi
27/9/2020 11:08 | Like this... Dacre demonstrably doesn’t believe in impartially and statutorily regulated media and Moore doesn’t believe in public service broadcasting, as his refusal to pay the licence fee demonstrates.” | maxidi
27/9/2020 11:04 | maxk Sounds a good idea to me. Why should the lefties have control of media with their brainwashing dictates ..... Another good thing from Boris' team. | maxidi
27/9/2020 11:00 | "Even the prospect of a small dividend would re-rate Lloyds dramatically IMO. GLA." Thanks cobourg...and don't we need a bit of that good luck! | optomistic

27/9/2020 10:41 | We are witnessing the slow demise of one of the great conceits of the modern world: the notion that the big-hearted State can protect us against every misfortune and that human beings are mere tools of State policy to be pushed about like pawns on a chessboard according to the changing impulses of its ministers. The attempt to control the spread of Covid-19 by coercion has failed. It has failed in Britain. It has failed throughout Europe and North America. | xxxxxy
27/9/2020 10:00 | Selling our Premium Bonds. They returned about 3% last year but they are going down to 0.01%, so on £100,000 it's only a tenner. Ridiculous !!! | maxidi
27/9/2020 09:27 | Excellent article by Lord Sumption in the Mail today. Two friends of mine (both barristers)know him quite well and they have told me he has one of the finest minds. In the article he sums up the whole Covid crisis superbly (imo). I agree with every word. Well worth a read I would suggest. | scruff1
