A pretty basic question having listened to the Chancellor again - he said that the government would guarantee these loans. Who is actually going to lend the money???

The size of these loans could pressure banks' liquidity and make a rethink on their dividends?

By issuing guarantees the loans will not figure up in the government finances???

Anyone know?

should see a strong upswing on banking stocks tomorrow. Boris's bailout to help companies will take a lot of pressure off bad bank loans. An 80% government guarantee will allow bad loans to be rolled off the bank onto the government.

Government will get a proper rogering on those bad loans.

Min...I dropped out @ 44p after getting in @ 46.5p
Using yesterdays movement as a yardstick, I decided to dip my toe in again this morning @ 33p. Heartened by the closing price, but set a stop-loss @ 33.5p to break even and cover costs. If counted out, shall go into hibernation for a while.
Overall down 25% this year.

Well said Minerve.

Always ensure I am comfortable with big losses before I invest if you are not put your money somewhere else.

Tell you what if I was not already invested would be buying loads of stocks now as in the longer term this is a very rare opportunity to buy quality cheap.

I am sitting on major losses but will sit it out and contrary to some of the doomsters on here I actually think it may not be the end of the world and we may just come out the other side.

No portfolio wipeout here.

Just losses, but someone is doing well if they haven't made any up until now, and if you are sat in cash, like you, when are going to get back in? And if this is protracted think of all those dividends you miss.

As Munger and Buffett say, if you can't deal with falls up to 50% in any stocks you should go and put your money in a savings account.
