US markets plunge more than 4pc as panic grows over coronavirus

Apple, Boeing, Microsoft and Procter & Gamble lose more than 5pc in 'worst week since financial crisis'

Wall Street stocks plunged more than 4 per cent on Thursday over growing panic

that the coronavirus outbreak will devastate global growth.

Shortly after the closing bell, the Dow Jones Industrial Average was down nearly

1,200 points or 4.4 per cent, to 25,766.03, its worst session in more than two

years.

The broad-based S&P 500 also slumped 4.4 per cent to 2,978.66, while the tech-rich

Nasdaq Composite Index shed 4.6 per cent to 8,566.48.

The losses set Wall Street on pace for its worst week since the 2008 financial

crisis, as investors continued to flee equities into safer investments like US

Treasuries and gold.

The Dow – which has shed 12pc, or almost 3,600 points, this week alone – was a sea

of red, with 3M the only gainer due to robust demand for face masks to guard

against the virus....
