Age UK need to be ashamed of themselves. Some pensioners will take their foolish words literally, and suffer as a result.

There is no binary choice in most things on this planet.

the elderly...as opposed to the muppets[obviously] who run AgeUK[another political gravy train]........... know this better than most.

You buy less..less frequently and you dont spoil the grandchildren in order to solve the alleged problem.

These Quangos and the media have infantilised otherwise decent intelligent people.

Ignore them and tell others to do the same.

Ctr, hear what your saying BUT with interest rates being where they are it's possible to service massive loans with modest means. It's only going take interest rate to move between 1 & 2 % for personal debt to become a problem. I think it's a great move by banks theres absolutely no point in meeting stress test if you have massive exposure the a personal debt time bomb. Personal debt needs to be bridled when interest rates are at all time lows. No point in addressing impairments when they become an issue because as we all know the tanker takes forever to change its course. Raising unsecured overdraft rates to at least this level should have been done long ago.

Another BBC hack whose £250,000 + salary should be slashed to covered OAP TV licences.

From June, the concession will be means-tested and only those over-75s receiving pension credit will be entitled to a free licence.

Can anyone say this is in any way unreasonable?

The issue of whether there should be a licence fee at all is another story, but I see no reason people should get a free licence however wealthy they are simply on account of age.

Optimism in British factories hit a six-year high in the three months to January. The Confederation of British Industry’s quarterly gauge of manufacturing optimism rose to +23 in January from -44 in October, its highest level since April 2014

"Wuhan on "Lockdown! Wont stop the spread I fear"

China said it was shutting down transportation from Wuhan, the epicenter of a deadly new virus outbreak.

The announcement, affecting buses, trains, planes and ferries, was a significant escalation from just the day before, when the authorities had declined to impose an official quarantine on the central Chinese city.

The new virus, which first emerged at the end of December, has killed at least 17 people and sickened more than 400.

Pensioners will have to choose between paying for BBC licence or heating, Age UK warns
From June, the concession will be means-tested and only those over-75s receiving pension credit will be entitled to a free licence.
Hundreds of thousands of pensioners will have to choose between watching television or paying their heating bills when the BBC begins charging over-75s for the licence fee, Age UK has warned.

From June, the concession will be means-tested and only those over-75s receiving pension credit will be entitled to a free licence.
The £145.50 annual cost is equivalent to more than three months’ worth of average gas or electricity bills, or around five months’ of water bills. The requirement to pay it will be “a shock to the budgets of many older people”, the charity said as it renewed its calls for the Government to take back responsibility for the scheme.
Caroline Abrahams, Age UK’s charity director, said: “All the evidence is that if the BBC’s plan goes ahead, hundreds of thousands of over-75s will struggle to pay for their TV licence.

The BBC insists that it cannot afford it, saying that maintaining the universal scheme would necessitate the closure of BBC Two, BBC Four, the BBC News channel, Radio 5 Live and BBC Scotland, plus local radio stations and other services. The new scheme will cost £250 million per year.

"If the BBC cant afford to pay such, then it cannot afford to pay the exorbitant eye watering salaries it dishes out.

Lineker isnt worth millions per year.
Nor are the rest of the celebrity A list they employ.

BBC needs to be reformed, privatised or made "pay for view"

I'm very much free market oriented but even I detest such blatant usury.

"Millions of Lloyds, Halifax and Bank of Scotland customers will be charged overdraft interest rates of up to 49.9% from April and those with a poor credit history are likely to pay the most. Lloyds Banking Group – which owns all three brands and has 22 million current account customers – is the biggest bank so far to overhaul its overdraft costs in response to a ban on excessive fees demanded last year by the City regulator. – Guardian"

49.9% overdraft fee.

Disgusting.

I'm around 5% down on my long term holding and not doing much on those traded, that said I recently dumped 25% so that's not helped overall performance.

Surely anyone buying in the last 5 years must have made money with the divi's included? Luckily I only bought last year and have traded the ups and downs so I'm about +10% overall at current levels.

...women who choose to go back to work to take advantage of a generous personal tax allowance of 12k before paying a penny in income tax...

If you don't count the income tax by another name i.e. National Insurance, which comes in at £8,632. But the Conservatives are committed to bringing that into line, thus continuing to help the lowest paid, which they've been doing for some years now.

The Conservatives have consistently been helping the low paid and hammering the well paid for years. Why are the socialists here unwilling to admit this?
