22/1/2020 11:18 | Thanks for your post, mr lb and an interesting explanation of what you meant by your "half-educated PI's" comment: I took it originally as intellectual snobbery, something which makes my hackles rise but it now reads quite differently, so apologies. Unfortunately, we are saddled with the bots now and just have to factor them in. Also known unknowns like the unpredictable encumbent in the White House, who can move markets with a bout of indigestion, Brexit, weather extremes, viruses in the Far East or Foot and Mouth disease in UK. Not sure I agree with you about Lloy being a widows and orphans number, though - or even if there is such a thing any more but I am long Lloyds, nevertheless. Will take another look at Mobius. | ![]() keyno
22/1/2020 11:18 | If you want people to read your posts stonedyou, stop putting asterisks in them. It really makes you seem like a real thick diddlo. Boris calls the EU our friends, because they are our friends and it would be silly not to realise that we need them just as much as they need us. I just hope that Boris doesn't write to them using asterisks where they do not apply. Education is so important!!! | ![]() jacko07

22/1/2020 10:49 | It's all going to plan so far.. May not be a good deal but it will be a quick deal? The European Union will offer a post-Brexit trade deal to the United Kingdom with the worse conditions compared to agreements that the bloc made with Canada or Japan. The European Commission reportedly urged the EU countries not to permit the UK regulation bodies to certify that goods conform to EU standards. If London intends to agree on the basic trade deal only, the bloc may not offer the Mutual Recognition Agreements deal that it signed with its major trade partners. The European Union will only agree to a post-Brexit trade deal with the United Kingdom based on "equivalence," warning that the UK goods coming to the EU need to compile with the same regulation as the products manufactured in the bloc. ......... Well would you trust the UK to certify that it's goods conform to EU standards? "Hey Frank...do these conform?" "Yer Fred, near enough!". | ![]() smartypants

22/1/2020 10:06 | "Could be trouble ahead chaps" China Virus Spreads to U.S. With Health Officials on High Alert The new virus “could be No. 2 or 3, that’s the concern,” Heymann said in an interview. “We need enough information to make a proper risk assessment.” Despite the worries, the new virus is likely less deadly than SARS, said University of Sydney associate professor Adam Kamradt-Scott. “It’s important to stress that this virus at the moment has been causing mild illness in the vast majority of people that have been affected,” he said in an interview on Bloomberg TV. “There’s around 10% of cases that have ended up in critical condition and there’s been deaths, but the vast majority of the 200-plus people infected have resulted in mild illness.” The Chinese New Year Holiday begins Friday evening and lasts about a week. Internally, it is a time for families to get together but the length of the break affords many people the opportunity to travel abroad which is why there is so much concern being expressed at present. The reality however is that there are probably about 300 confirmed cases and perhaps triple that which have gone unreported, but there will be hundreds of thousands of people travelling abroad over the next couple of weeks. There is obviously risk of further contagion but it is unlikely to represent the pandemic many fear. New Virus Spreads to U.S., Sparking Rush to Contain Outbreak While the vast majority of the cases are in Wuhan, a city of 11 million in the eastern inland of China, infections have been reported in Beijing, Shanghai, Tianjin, Zhejiang, Henan and Jiangxi. Patients have also been diagnosed in Thailand, Japan, South Korea and Taiwan. “This is an evolving situation,” said Nancy Messonnier, director of the CDC’s National Center for Immunization and Respiratory Diseases. “We do expect additional cases in the United States and globally.” | ![]() crossing_the_rubicon
