The 10yr US treasury has broken 5%; BoE likely to hike rates again to defend £.It all bodes a recession is being engineered by the somewhat discredited central bankers. UK Government is running out of time and money.

BOE Governor Says UK Pay Growth Is Still Too High for Comfort

If you consider who pushed energy cap, utility prices and mortgage interest payments up, shows the focus is misplaced.

The BoE/HMG squeeze on the economy showing itself in more layoffs and restructuring. The inflation target figure of 2% leaves only one conclusion- a recession is only option for actual inflation to hit the target rate.

Construction News reports Insolvency Services have dropped their actions against the former Chairman and CEO of Carillion. If the IS had a case against the top directors at Carillion then they should imho still pursue the case. Directors need to know if they step over the line then they will face the full weight of the legal system

K's former auditor were fined £4m for audits of K and another firm.

If audits are wrong shareholders should have recourse against the auditors. Auditors need to know shareholders pay the bills and take the hits, therefore there should a liability to shareholders for poor audits.

BBC News - Higher rates punish low paid, says Bank's Swati Dhingra

75% to 80% of the impact of past rate hikes is still to be felt. The UK economy is currently flat lining so it looks like BoE expects a hard landing.

The Shadow Chancellor wants to get UK building again, Government issues a list of projects that are not funded. If the General Election is still 12 months away the likelihood is a downturn in the construction with 2 yrs of recovering before a Labour Government can set their own agenda.
Between HMG and BoE they have messed up the economy.

The issues identified in the report may be specific to Bouygues but the supply chain exposure is common factor for most construction firms.

Good report in the evening standard, who actually wanted HS2 , London, because everyone wants to go there apparently and Manchester, because they want to be the big player up north , apparently most of the other northern cities aren't bothered, better the money spent sorting cross country links to Liverpool, Manchester, Leeds Sheffield, Hull., they dont need London to survive, and South of Bristol , doesn't exist in Londons eyes , it just somewhere to have a holiday home, ie Somerset, Devon and Cornwall better they spent some money down there

Cancelling HS2 is a good thing , a total white elephant, the car will always be king in this country, so spend it on roads etc , they always go on about the North being poor , load of rubbish in my opinion, high wages and low cost of housing , much more disposable income , than most in the South , all because a lot of northern people and londoners has subsequently moved to the south , to live/retire , with their wealth, it messes with the reality , the majority of londoners and seaside workers are struggling to make ends meet

The Chancellor needs to fund £20bn of additional interest payments due to higher rates/bond yields. UK is already being taxed to the highest levels post war. The only options in a low growth environment is to, cut cost , stall investment or borrow more. We shall see how things pan out come Autumn Statement.

Sunak said: “There must be some accountability for the mistakes made, for the mismanagement of this project.

How much of the blame will stick to contractors, consultants or HMG?

You are, or were, probably right on HS2. Sunak seems to be softening a bit with respect to now saying he's not made up his mind.

But really, the political procrastination is what makes overruns. Let's face it, you dither for a year and that adds 10% due to inflation, but you get that back in VAT and income tax receipts so is probably not an overrun in the long run. But... once agreed in the words of Nike. . "Just Do It". Something politicians are incapable of doing.

As for the doctors comments that is pure unfounded conjecture!

HMG is reported to cut Manchester HS2 link; odd that they can find £4bn+ to fund House of Parliament upgrade.

I think Government is set to cut more capital projects to fund a deal to pay the Doctors off ahead of the next Election.
