If delivery of aircraft doesn't happen as planned, presumably j2 will get some compensation from suppliers.

Dont think demand will drop off. All this talk of Starmers tax plans will keep people spending..

Minimal disruption in Europe this summer. Next summer could be interesting, the ACMI operators are charging big, big money. If delivery of air raft doesn't happen as per the plan it'll be cancelled holidays or a bit dent in the pocket.

Most of this (above) is way above my head. What is not is that we have had much better weather in the past month or so in the South-East, where I live, than the West of the country, Wales and Scotland. That may well help Jet2.
My neighbour's second son - his first is now with BA - has given up his job as a RR mechanic to train as a pilot also. It seems a good way to do the training is go to the States for six months. His brother did the same prior to covid. The rewards must be pretty good and Jet2 obviosuly has to offer decent staff packages.
Finally all shareholders can see that the shares look pretty cheap, the growth is frankly spectacular - compared with pre-covid 2019 and 2020 sales and profits have pretty much doubled though there has been a significant increase in share issuance from 140mn in 2020 to 240mn today to keep the ship afloat. I would suggest that the Meeson shareholding might be a dampener on the share price - presumably he will lessen his direct 18% interest at some stage (there is another 2% in a settlement trust)- and I still feel a dividend revival would/will help. But I am enormously encouraged by the modernisation of the fleet, the increase in holiday packages and the expansion in airports.

Shortage of pilots is affecting all airlines. Uk is especially tricky with licensing regime post brexit. Uk airlines are fighting over a smaller pool of people. J2 has always had an uneasy relationship with balpa, it was forced to recognise them and further parts of the relationship ended up in the high court some years ago. https://www.farrer.co.uk/news-and-insights/blogs/a-trade-union-victory/I have heard some 757 crew off to dhl in preference to retraining on airbus. Alot of crew do value the regional bases and being home nearly every night though. It will come down to money ultimately. Labour government not likely to help, driving higher owners overseas to the likes of Emirates..

I went on a walking holiday in Turkey in the first week of May this year. The hotel had opened up a week early for the group. I extended my trip by 5 days, hired a car, and booked hotels online. Some of the optional day trips were not running but the historic sites were empty and the weather was very comfortable for spending 5 hours out walking. One hotel I stayed in had JET2 rep information in the lobby.

Just to note, the information re: pax etc is all passed by ACARS now, rather than by voice radio.

CT - when they call before landing on an ops frequency (not ATC), usually 25-30mins out, they normally give ETA, pax number, special requests (like wheelchairs not songs) and tech status. I just thought your in a good location in the spine of the country and you would then easily work out load factors, which is far more meaningful than the number of flights in the air, as they may be empty!
Obviously someone who works on the ground may have or be able to get such info. Sadly my former colleagues are retired or in that airport in the sky. I have such a radio, but its in the loft and despite searching I cannot find it.

darrin, good point. Also for me and no doubt others who are not keen on 30 degrees, who want to do active things on holiday, its hacked me off that flights finished in autumn when temps dropped down to twenty.

"extending their flight programme by starting earlier and finishing later to some destinations."
This may also have something to do with the cost of hotels. I would have thought adding weeks to the beginning and end of the season would be very cheap and profitable.

ah thank you...........understand now.

I do a calculation based on the number of flights each day x 200 to give me a very rough estimate of pass

I will need to reduce this one the 757 fleet is retired to about 185.

Would an airband radio get me more information?

I just grab the flight radar data automatically so i can look at it historically as well as live.
97 in the air now as 11 have landed and a few late ones still to go up

Big volume this week and a nice jump yesterday

CT - thats starting earlier and ending later in the season, not the day!

Have you not thought of indulging in an airband radio to find out some pax figures?

75s are simply a liability now. Also not at all cost effective to run just two or three of them.

It also gives them flexibility to Wet lease .

They can only get 4 sectors a day in and i am not sure they could get 4x long sectors in.

So the earlier /later times will not help.

1x turkey or 1x canaries and then a return to Portugal or Spain would get 20 hours out of the asset.

If all six 757s go this winter, the new 321Ns that arrive over this same period, will not give much capacity boost for the peak summer season, unlike this year. Perhaps thats why their summer 2025 release emphasized extending their flight programme by starting earlier and finishing later to some destinations.

Trying

I agree 100% and the barrier to entry is not easy.

If its via PPL its certainly not a cheap option.

The days of people borrowing money against houses has almost gone as well.

However COVID really killed the market as there was so little work and the pipeline closed right off.

Some big money being paid now and pulling from the south up here is not easy.

My guy is just 32 and he loves the months off to travel in the winter.
More difficult if you have school age children.

No idea re the 737/200 aircraft that are all at leeds ( as a maintenance base).

West Yorkshire simply doesn't produce pilots like Surrey does...it's a rich man's hobby turned profession.
