Colourbox - Sleepwalker / Just Give 'em Whiskey

two tracks in one, give piano a chance, as john lennon probably once said.

wolt, enjoying the 2004 gjones slave. yep looks like thorn to me. no sign of sly n robbie. i think they went off on one [a digital one?] in the mid eighties and lost their roots. the old black uhuru albums were the best, particularly the one with the extended mixes [cant remember the name, lol]

agreed the private life track sounds like sly n robbie.

cocteau twins? i much preferred 'the cure' at the time.
ct sold well on their very distinctive sound, and were an essential act on the 4ad label, allowing funds to be ploughed back into new and experimental bands.
whatever happened to dr calculus? edit, just looked it up. dr calc were on ten records. [doh]
re edit, just checked the records, getting dr calculus confused with colourbox, who were on 4ad. omg what was a reasonably good weekend rapidly falling apart.

merlin, the virginia astley was very much an interlude!

btw wolt, enjoyed the cmayfield very much.

Thanks guys - I am learning classical and that 'B' is a major part of the two verses of 'Romanza' and then sometimes to chill I strum and 'Blueberry Hill' is in 'B flat' too. I will try to get my head and fingers around above - thankyou.

Nice one Wolt.....

.....or bar across all 6 strings at the 1st (F) fret with you index finger and then add an "A" shape on strings 2,3 & 4 (ie 2 frets up from the barre). This gives a B flat major using all six strings without moving the wrist up the fretboard from an "F" chord. If you move this (Bb) shape up 2 more frets then you have a C major, another 2 more a "D" and so on (string 5 position will always be the root)

(made sure I had a coffee before typing this)

if you can play an 'A' with one finger i.e. 2nd fret on D, G and B string then it's just a question of fretting that with your little finger but slid up one fret i.e. 3rd fret, D, G and B strings and then using your index finger to fret the 1st fret on the A string - i.e. the B flat root

your second finger will naturally curl over to dampen (rest on slightly and 'numb') the bottom E string (the fat one), and the underside of your knuckle on your little finger will be resting on the top E string (the really skinny one), to dampen that

you don't always have to play all 6 strings, four is usually enough...

not an easy thing to put into words!

or

if you can do E chord shaped barre chords, i.e. like an F at the first fret, then it's the same shape but at the 6th fret...

Brass sections tend to play in E flat, B Flat, A flat - and they're not 'natural' as such on a guitar which is more E, A, G, C etc

that's why Hendrix slackened his strings equivalent on one fret, to make say an E sound like an E flat because he used to play with a lot of brass sections before becoming the 'Hendrix' that everyone knows from the mid to late 60's...

remember 'flat' is down a fret, 'sharp' is up a fret....

a guitar fret is a 'semitone' - the difference between a white key and the next black key on a piano...

a tone, like your 'doh ray mi far so la tih' etc, are generally two 'semitones' = a tone, apart from two exceptions, between b and c, and e and f - again you'll see this on a piano keyboard.....

sounds well good that Sansamp thing Merlin, listening to the samples on the website...

would work well with my EH Caliber 22 poweramp pedal thing?

just would then only need someone (the wife ..?) to hump my 2x10 cab!

Just ordered a Sansamp tri-ac should arrive soon. Anyone else got one?

Also just restrung my Variax with Tomastik Infeld Super Steel alloys, a it sounds much better without even plugging it in (I use 10s now) TI bass strings are the Dees Bees IMO.

Wolt, a few clips to get through the! I have a Cocteau Twins album, and I find it very weird sounding and an uncomfortable listen.

Have for sale a Hartke 3500 Bass amp and Hartke 4x10 xt cab for sale if anyone is interested? (both VGC) - the missus is fed up with them residing in the lounge.

I'm in love with a German Porn Star

B maj - E shape barred 7th fret

slide down to G 3rd fret, but leave the top two string open i.e. the B and E to make a kinda G6

down to E

add chorus and delay

:)
