23/10/2017 16:07 | ................Citi The report further noted that iPhone X shipments are expected to record a 50% on-quarter growth in the first quarter of 2018 on improved yield rates. The worst case scenario for the production of 3D sensing modules used by iPhone X is over, with the two suppliers LG Innotek and Sharp to begin ramping up shipments in November and December, respectively, Kuo said................ | maxwellsdemon

23/10/2017 11:01 | so its all eyes on what Himax are saying they are providing Qualcomm 3D sensing modules with their wafer level optics solution, in the last CC their CEO said that their present solution was using EE lasers but could just as easily employ VCSELS. For me, it's a slam-dunk that they would PREFER to use VCSELs, as they give better efficiency, power production AND yield. The issue Himax will have is that it can only produce a small amount of the inferior 4inch VCSEL wafers in-house, the big question is can IQE produce enough of their superior 6inch wafers to supply Lumentum( and hence Apple) AND Himax? , that situation will, of course, be resolved when the Newport factory comes on stream :-) in the meantime, November 1st and 2nd are going to be important news days for IQE S | sweenoid
23/10/2017 10:13 | ........Elsewhere, a new report claims the Galaxy S9 will ship with a “3D sensor front camera”. 20/10/2017 16:06 | In confirming that Forecasts remain IN LINE in this mornings announcement, they specifically say "including that of net debt". The N+1 Singer Forecast for Year End Net-Debt was £46.5m, and that remains the case...despite having to pay out cash of £4.2m to the US Tax Authorities which was obviously not in the previous Forecast. This implies that additional cash versus previous forecast has been generated from somewhere to compensate this Tax Payment. Trading performance, perhaps? N+1 Singer make this point: "We take this as a promising indication of underlying outperformance" Quite right. So do I. | simso

20/10/2017 15:50 | Sweenoids post 7763 from earlier this week was one of his star posts in my opinion. It highlighted a huge potential earner for IQE which most people didn't have a clue about. It did not get much follow up discussion, which was rather surprising, though it did attract a phenomenal 37 'likes'. The most interesting and exciting bit for me was our partnership with Canadian company Redlen. Its founder was apparently up in the Mir Space Station a few years back doing experiments for the Canadian Space Agency on CZT crystal and wafer growth in zero gravity (cadmium zinc telluride) which is known to have exceptional ability to detect photons. Well, he must have figured out how to do it back on earth (perhaps with the help of their partner IQE) as Redlen say that they can now do this cheaply with good yields enabling them to be marketing state of the art airport security detectors incorporating CZT single crystal wafers which can see more than anything before. They sound so good that they could probably see the colour of your wife's knickers!! I don't think I need to say that this is a massive growth market where agencies need the best equipment available, and are prepared to pay for it. It looks like a big earner for them, and maybe us. (They have both presented joint papers on this at security conferences). But the real big one may be Redlen's partnership with Hitachi, the biggest player in the medical scanners market. It is all on Redlen's website. Sweenoids radiologist mates tell him that these new scanners, incorporating CZT wafers, offer a step-change in medical imaging and will REPLACE conventional CT scanning within a few years. How many hospitals are there that will need these in the world? Now IQE do not get a mention on Redlen's website, as far as I can see, but using Sweenoids Ockham's Razor princile (I needed to look that one up!) the fact that they are presenting joint papers and that this small unquoted company is unlikely to be able to produce enough of these to meet coming demand on its own then it looks pretty likely that Redlen will outsource much of the wafer production to IQE. There are a few assumptions there, I know, but by joining the dots it looks like another potential big income stream in the next year or two. Xylos | a0469514
20/10/2017 15:09 | hxxps://www.insiderm Deal of the Year Winner: IQE's placing, funding and acquisition of Kopin Wireless, advised by Acuity Legal, Eversheds and PWC, and funded by HSBC This deal made Cardiff-based IQE the world's biggest supplier of a key mobile phone element. 20/10/2017 14:04 | Not great news this morning but pretty much irrelevant imv. As detailed at length by many here (sweenoid especially), this is a large, high quality business on the cusp of a major ramp up in sales & profit, with world leading technology & substantial growth opportunities on a number of fronts. Near term & in the absence of any trading update, I suspect the share price will depend heavilly on the ability of short sellers to target any perceived weakness in initial iPhone X sales or negative media comment in or around the launch. For me (and other long term holders no doubt), this is all background noise & I will add on any significant pullback should it occur. All imho & dyor etc.... | xajorkith
20/10/2017 14:01 | thereptile. Yes you're right of course. Careless wording by me! I do think IQE might sue for more than just the fine and the interest though. Do we know which firm it was yet? | grabster
20/10/2017 13:51 | Professional firms have Professional Indemnity (PI)insurance. This is typically a condition of membership of the relevant professional body. If there is a case to answer (as there clearly appears to be) then IQE will certainly receive a decent payout for this. | terry topper
20/10/2017 12:53 | When dealing with HMRC you consult with them & make a payment on account - a round figure which is adjusted when the liability is known. | picobird
20/10/2017 12:34 | oozededaddy: Why would a fine be levied ? If you have read the RNS, it states "IQE immediately initiated the payment of the estimated amount to the relevant tax authority, and will adjust any over/under payment in due course." | wattene
20/10/2017 12:32 | Really grabster. I don't see why they would pay tax that is owed even if they made a mistake The fine maybe and interest Anyway it's all conjecture and doesn't seem to be harming the sp Roll on November. Whatever's happening then | thereptile
20/10/2017 12:31 | Sorry folks but tax firms do not pay recompense. They hide behind the LLC status of their company. Even the new International tax advisor presumably PWC are LLC limited. That's why I do all my own tax work, I appreciate a bit of help but always get there under my own steam :) IQE need to revise their Audit Committee bods & replace the said director. That's the trouble with taking things for granted except their share options which they count every day. | picobird
20/10/2017 12:28 | tax dodges dont do Amazon,Apple,Microso they are always picking up fines | netcurtains
20/10/2017 12:27 | This will actually be positive as they are having a full review of tax policies. Likely to find more ways of saving as a result. As to whether they will get full compensation is a mute point. But the advisors reputation is very much at stake. | jch18
20/10/2017 12:27 | If the advice was negligent then the accountancy firm won't pick the bill up, their professional indemnity insurer will. The advice may not have been negligent though as Company may have been given range of options for accounting treatment by accountancy firm and chosen the riskiest one. OD | obiterdicta |
