08/9/2017 17:16 | All you ever wanted to know about VCSELs | nortisop
08/9/2017 16:57 | maxwellsdemon - These VCSELs work at infrared wavelengths (850 - 980nm) with an IR filter on the detector so visible light has little effect on operation. | nortisop
08/9/2017 16:47 | loobrush, yes, that explanation was what I thought you meant. As I said before, perhaps you missed the fact that the VCSEL market is about to explode which means IQE have already shipped wafers to supply the demand for the iPhone. The current valuation is probably a bit low given where analysts think the 2018 numbers will be. I don't see how anyone can think that it will take time to ramp up? It's going from zero to what, 30-40m units this quarter. Then in 2018 you'll have 3 quarters of iPhone8 sales plus one of iPhone9. Then you add in the GaN RF market that is coming online - I would have thought you won't find a faster ramp anywhere in the industry. | sheep_herder
08/9/2017 16:39 | loobrush: The share price will always reflect future profits so by the time the profits justify a £1Bn market cap hopefully the share price will be much higher | bocase
08/9/2017 16:36 | Sheepherder-when I said profits I meant profits to match the £ Billion valuation as at the moment, without checking forecasts- the annual revenue will be something like £180 million and a profit £20 million. Although potential is huge it will take time to ramp up. | loobrush
08/9/2017 16:34 | There's an even bigger difference between "it works in low light or even total darkness..." and "Note that it only works in low level light..." as the intimation was that it needs at least low level light to work where in fact it doesn't. well, looks like we just about crawled over the Rubicon !! Lunchtime :-) | hammerd2
08/9/2017 16:24 | maxwellsdemon - there's a difference between, "The firm notes that it works in low light...", and your comment, "Note that it only works in low level light...". | sheep_herder

08/9/2017 13:55 | nice to see IQE's 6" capability being indirectly touted as an advantage by someone in the same sector. | twatcher
08/9/2017 13:52 | loobrush, you said, "... profits here are still a few years away and I think over the next 6 months we may see the price drop away a bit and provide a chance to buy again lower.". Profits are years away? Have you missed the fact that the iPhone is shipping this month and contains VCSELs made with IQE wafers? | sheep_herder
08/9/2017 13:48 | grity - you asked does etched facet tech compete with NIL. That's a bit like asking is the hand saw a replacement for the hammer. Etched facet describes how the wafer is cut and packaged to for the laser: Nano Imprint Lithography is a process for creating patterns on the surface of the wafer and competes with the traditional lithographic process using lasers, lenses and masks. | sheep_herder
08/9/2017 13:37 | i took 15k of these at 155.5 small % of my pf but i have great hopes for it next year shorters nightmare imo gla | adejuk
08/9/2017 13:02 | For those interested, a link to the latest Finisar earnings call, seems they have shot themselves in the foot in the initial supply of 3D sensing VCSELS! Of interest, also the following which is something we discussed on their last earnings call... "And 4-inch versus 6-inch, we're at a disadvantage when we operate only at 4-inch now. We thought it was an advantage for us to being able to scale production and be able to produce a quality product because we -- that's the fab that we run and that's the fab that we know. But in the future if we're going to be competitive in this business we're going to have to expand our capacity to 6-inch, so we're planning on it." | poombear
08/9/2017 12:51 | How about posting CPX stuff on the CPX boards ? Just a thought so people with no interest in it don't have to scroll past it. | hammerd2
