I only feel sorry indirectly for their kids - when kids are involved - because they don't know their dads are playing the mortgage on their heads by borrowing stock that does not belong to them ...

Why would anybody feel sorry for shorters?

The more they lose the better.

They think it is fun to take money out of genuine investors' pockets so they deserve no sympathy whatsoever.

Unless you were being sarcastic?

hammerd2 - How can they "understand" what you say when one is trapped ? When a shorter is trapped he/she can invent anything to get out of his/her misery. I think the real action will start from Friday... Still feel sorry for them. Some are real gamblers.

Never say never hammerd2, directors take the high price opportunity to raise funds and to issue share options at cheaper price
They have quite high level of debt already and the results will show that increase fb
Love the optimism but Been in this game so long
Never feel sorry for shorters fugi

I think a SWOT analysis would need to be undertaken in relation to rights issue v cash loan facility. Money is super cheap at the minute and given the space that IQE occupy, I doubt there would be a shortage of supply in the city.

Sure a takeover or even a merger could occur, especially if the pressure to consolidate the market materialise sooner rather than later. For me, II-VI, Inc. becomes an interesting outfit in this scenario.

Broader threats around North Korea seem more worrying by the day, but then again I am in SE Asia and cant help but think that the little fat guy is using his missiles to manipulate the market, to pay for his missile improvement R&D. Unless he pegs out or is taken out, we can expect 50 years of further uncertainty from his corner.

The Stiffel Report will be updated for sure in the near future, and I will stick to this body of evidence for reference

There is no 'talk' of a rights issue - discounted or not. IQE have just taken a very attractive 11 year lease with an extend or buy option on it to meet their exact foreseen expansion requirements and the kit going into it can be funded from cash-flow.

dpmeyer - My investment was fully paid and for the long term. But I still feel sorry for those shorters who are trapped between today and Tuesday the 5th. How much will they lose once the share price heads north ?

Never invest more than you are prepared to lose fugi99 especially with AIM and Tech stocks and especially after a huge bull run otherwise you're playing a v dangerous game and you certainly shouldn't be borrowing to do so

Unfortunately many shorters are now trapped. Another blow tomorrow and the final long nail on their coffin by Monday 5th at 8.00 am.

jugu, 5409, yes. And if you search on the Test and Measurement website for that title you find the published date which renders it more than a little useless. But 25 people 'liked' it so that's good.

Short-term debt would be most likely - this talk of discounted rights issues or placings is misleading and better suited to AIM commodity/mining shares where your efforts to short are more likely to be rewarded.

I'm going to join sweenoid in the calm corner until next Tuesday!

The closer you look at IQEs unique position I wonder if the biggest threat could be an early takeout by a predator!! Fingers xsd it doesn't happen too soon.

Some shorters are trying diversion of all sorts because they smell the share price is going to head north. I believe many will lose loads of money and a few may even be banqurupt by Monday the 5th. The share price will spike in a way that will surprise them. Good luck for that mortgage ....

I'd rather the rights but more likely a discounted placing

grabster, if they did need to raise funds for rapid expansion (which would be positive), it would not be via a "deeply discounted rights issue". A company the size and profile of IQE has many more options for raising expansion capital, including a premium placing with institutions.

For me, threats (short term ones), with any company whose future prospects heavily exceed current capacity, is the possibility of a large discounted rights issue to fund rapid expansion. Not that they shouldn't do so - sometimes they should - but it can trigger a hostile reaction. (It matters more to those with heavily leveraged positions - which I don't have).

EDIT: As other posters below have pointed out - the chances are that any rights issue here would not be at a significant discount. And a fully subscribed pre-arranged placing - again at no discount - is perhaps more likely. Neither would do any damage.
