Other than Rowe Price and Herald, there isn't a huge institutional presence here. We can see multiple pieces falling into place, the instis are a little slower, but they will soon be caught up in a cycle of repeated upgrades and will propel the share price much higher. We've had a good period of consolidation between 100-120, feel the next leg is imminent.

richardc77, I think you need to run some numbers or look at the other markets before you start to worry about the price running out of steam.

Given that people should be running their winners, and we have great visibility of the markets here and the demand for data and optics, I can't believe that people are talking about cashing out already. Once this hits a tenner, then maybe.

There have been charts posted on this thread showing the predicted number of smartphone shipments in 2019 and beyond. Every 100K of those that have a 3D sensor is 6p on the EPS if you take Peel Hunts numbers at face value. It's very simple maths to extrapolate up and this is just the VCSEL market. This should be at least a fiver in the 2019 time frame and there's enough growth in the industry for EPS to be growing at 20%+ for 10 years.

The only possible negative on the horizon is a buyout which would prevent us realising the full potential. I predict sweenoid will be saying "cheap as chips under 300p" sooner than you think.

Hadn`t noticed the Cannacord location but enjoyed your response..

A little knowledge can be a dangerous thing and I have it in spades so I am grateful to you, Sheep-Herder,Hammered2 Shavian Someuwin et al for the gentle shepherding that goes on. Shavian`s tweak in the humility stakes brought a smile and I hope that it didn`t hurt too much. Your willingness to share and even chide is much appreciated. The spirit of this thread is the best I have ever encountered.

I personally hope there is still a "touch" element to unlock the new iPhone. There are many situations where a descrete finger print opening is a better solution to check the phone quickly (when the wife is fed up of you glancing at the phone for example). Maybe the 3D sensor will allow descrete opening, however I'd be amazed if it was as convenient in all situations.

Re IQE. There is no reason to think the share price will not be at £2 by the spring of 2018 or indeed before. At that point I will review the pipeline and decide if £3 is easily achievable or too greedy. We are ahead of the curve right now, but that won't last forever (although it may last for all of next year). I'm sure IMG taught several of us that sometimes huge % gains should be banked before the steam runs out.

Either way exciting times and I am thankful for the luck of getting in when I did and the work of the excellent contributors on the board.

Good luck to all longs, and to the shorters you will need some ;)

I like my chips with wafers :)

One things a dead certainty - the rumours and hype surrounding the iPhone8 launch will continue apace until it's released. The best thing for us is that a majority of supposition will be around the 3D sensing chip and facial recognition , especially if as now seems certain Apple has dropped the fingerprint sensor :-)

I wonder what companies are involved with that then ;-):-) :-)
The 'message' is starting to get around, IQE could soon be the 'media darling' of British technology?, I had high expectations a year ago but the potential 'end-game' here is looking far more attractive than I ever dreamed of. I do so hope Macoms customer audit on Thursday goes well, they will be desperate to release good news if the audit is good, it would certainly give IQE another salvo of ammunition to 'fire' at interims on March 5th.

No matter how big our VCSEL business is going to get , GAN on Silicon in RF power is going to be bigger- and that's not me talking, it's the CEO and Chairmans opinions when asked at the AGM

Another nice rumour

That's me done for the day, toodly pip

"In light of recent progress and its increasingly confident outlook, the board expects the group will now exceed market expectations for the full year and whilst it remains early into the start of the mass-market adoption of our technology, it is possible that with the current contract momentum, a more significant upgrade to current market expectations could be delivered for 2018. Took Sheepy's advice earlier and googled "apple vcsel supplier". A mine of information. But what was really interesting was it lead me to Apple's own official list of suppliers dated Feb 2017. It's a pretty extensive roll-call - and as I was reading it occurred to me that with the advent of 5G, 10G etc and the roll-out of AR applications there will be a pressing need for many of these firms to both upgrade and upscale their capacity to provide enhanced CS content in their product. No doubt many are hard at work on this right now otherwise they won't stay on that list for very long. So the market for our wafers, as we've believed for some time now - and as Sweenoid has repeatedly emphasised, really is huge folks. And that's just Apple!

Still plenty of time...
... with momentum stocks I have never been in "near the bottom" but that has left plenty of time for good multiple gains.
Gearing also helps, of course ;-)

Yes Herald Trust is very impressive. They recently backed Zoo with capital at 9p. A few months later already 15p. They have great insight both short and longterm and invest also in tiny companies like zoo.

Well spotted Dave, but it's Potts not Watts - great fund manager.I switched from Scottish Mutual to Herald last month, as it was trading at a stupid discount of 18% to NAV, while ScoMo was (and still is) trading at a premium. Simple arbitrage, and also because of HRI's holding in IQE. Since then we've had our big rise and HRI's discount has narrowed to 14%, but it's still a huge bargain and a way of buying more IQE on the cheap, IMOTHe Tempus article quoted the HRI allocations as at 30 June. My back of the envelope calc shows that IQE is now the largest holding in the trust. HRI up this morning, so people are taking note of the article and the discount.

A lot of PI's like 'press' comments, so you will enjoy Tempus in The Times this morning, his article is mainly about Diploma, but focuses on Katie Watts Herald Investment trust where IQE is her number 2 holding ( after Diploma) IQE get a nice positive mention. :-)
I agree with lucky-mouse this present share price is going through a nice period of consolidation, the next step up, is imminent....but I can wait

IQE PLC at Canaccord Genuity Growth Conference

Well it's in Boston MA , so no ;-) but would love to be a fly on the wall. Just to remind 'oldies' and inform ' newbies' our CFO Phil Rasmussen made a point at the recent AGM of telling us that their was significant and growing interest in IQE in the USA to the point that he was almost inundated with enquiries, he felt the US firms had a far greater depth of understanding of IQE's proposition. I think this conference will help spread the word. Our biggest investor TRowe-Price IS a US based investor after all. Interestingly Macom are also talking in Boston today but at the Oppenheimer conference ( maybe more on GAN on silicon?) that is being broadcast at 7.25pm our time.
