mister,
I agree the valuation is not taking any consideration for growth. That was a key take away for me from last week.
The company is planning 150% increases in production each of the next two years which is quite modest when you look at it.

The market has yet to catch up with figures, so I'm keen to add.

If iodine does recover as most think, it only needs to get to $50 for us to throw off 12p EPS next year.

If growth is consistent then a modest P/E of 15 gets us easily to 125-150p. Any tie up announcements with the Japs, we will be triple figures immediately.

I can see an MSMN reaction as per last Friday if something like that were to happen.

It's not just about batteries as most know, iodine is not just a disinfectant as I once thought in CK nagging days.

As an example and back on the Japan issue. This is current and very relevant-:

"Hypervalent iodine reagents are now used extensively in organic synthesis as a mild, safe, and economical alternative to heavy metal or rare metal reagents"

Conference on the topic in Japan in a few weeks.

Look at the list of sponsors down the right. That gives you some idea of who has a good interest in iodine.

The Japanese know the importance of iodine in future technology, and their resources are diminishing.

Agreed - although I am still of the opinion that 1.25p may not be far off once people realise this is NOT ex growth .

Mister big,
I bought a few yesterday too, very hard to get any in volume.

The selling last week was just profits taking, I watched closely Tuesday and buying was heavy around 51p. I waited until I was sure the market wanted to keep IOF above the 20 and 50 DMA.

I think 75p+ is a fair value right now.

I believe ultimately an industry trade sale is most likely - to the Japanese .
The work on batteries is more advanced than people think, technology once proven can be adopted quicker than you think. Plus Middle East heating up and oil price will start to rise ( if Iraq / Iran stuff gets heavy - geo politically rebels I. Iraq aligned to Saudi Arabia ( Sunni )
The Atlantis field probably has oil so it should work both ways - I was busy buying yesterday but market super tight so not many sellers around.

If such demand were to arise from a significant increase in market demand, you can be sure someone like IOF would be gone.

The sites and iodine is there, the cash isn't. The funds needed are very low compared to mining. The speed from plans to execution are years quicker than planning for mining.

It's a flat pack ready to go.

SQM will need $250 mill for a seawater pipeline. From what was said at the AGM that is 294 10k pods of 10k bpd each, 100ppm average and 60% useage, you have SQMs entire production rate.

Some time back IOF said they have over 100 sites.

The 19k going down the drain comment equates to average ppm rate around 45.

The recent comment was the current potential pod sites range from 200ppm to 1000ppm.

That 19k figure go up significantly in this drilling boom in Oklahoma.

It's all fantasy league, but if the big companies need iodine, it's in the US.

Texas and other areas have good ppm rates too.

I disagree on the batteries and uses, the project I was shown details of is uk based and works directly on lithium iodide technology - it was really quite interesting. I didn't appreciate that the raf first developed lithium iodide batteries in the. 80's. For military use.
There is clearly an issue with battery life ( as any iPhone user will tell you ! )

As for turning to drink if iofina tanks , I don't have to wait - I'm off to ascot today in top hat and tails and will no doubt be pickled by 4!

Hi Bogg1e, yeah if it is taken up then 5 years before it has any significant impact on iodine demand would also be my view. So the cost of iodine is not really an issue as in the case of tesla they charge more than £10k for the battery (think it is more than that). That cost is why I don't think take up of EV's will be particularly quick.

If you are worried then it needs to be at 80p for five days, keep everyone informed and ensure that all sell at 78p and give IOF some time then everyone's a winner.... except Chris and Arron :-).

Get back on the walking regime, you know it makes sense, life is short and you will see something on the walks that you have never seen before, guarantee it :-)

Why are you ramping the oil possibilities and yet still calling it down...

Careful on the drinking, I can see that it is playing on your mind a little, try and get on the wagon like last year, you will live longer

Thanks lib, I am giving it some stick atm, I think Arron & Chris will get this by designed default.

Nice to see your very long and lucid post N3tley, I liked it! But not a difficult call on the further drop being a day shorter than last month and of course the sell in May routine. What if something new comes up? Why are you ramping the oil possibilities and yet still calling it down... counter productive maybe?

Careful on the drinking, I can see that it is playing on your mind a little, try and get on the wagon like last year, you will live longer.

Don't think people hate you, just your manner is unfortunate.

Bit harsh mate. I'm one of the few who has called this quite accurately.

I am now calling this down further.

How does that make you feel?

1 madmarky, no idea on how long it will take for a clear leader in the emerging battery tech world to materialise, but probably a good 5 years or so. As long as IOF can seriously start to scale up in 2015 then any extra demand could be met. It would take 4 x IO2 to create an extra thousand tonnes per year, so i imagine it will still take 5 years or so to get to a point where they can be producing enough.
