Looks like more disappointment with the lack of news updates.

Totally agree.

Management are not risking their monthly salary for investors, no certainly not. No risky decisions taken here, well none that reward shareholders, maybe the odd selfish gardening project.

Iodine spot price has risen around 4% in last few weeks which backs up everything SQM have been saying.

The company is making decent money. The best performing companies are ones that have a high return on invested capital. Generally you should look at ones running at 15%+ which is where IOF are.

Last few weeks I have done a deep dive and figured out why speed of roll out has not been as fast as I had expected. I think we are at a stage where having an active share buyback in place makes sense…especially as the monetary amounts would be relatively small.

Wouldn’t buybacks have just helped sellers sell at a higher price to the cost of the company?

What stops a share price falling back anyway when the buyback pot runs out?

And where did they ever say they set aside a million to buy back from the market? Their intent for a buy back from my recollection, as I stated many times, was to buy a block being sold as below market value.

Clearly what they are doing currently isn’t working from a share price perspective, for whatever reason. And I wish it were. And I do t even mind the idea of a buyback at the right price, it should be earnings accretive. As long as they have the cash for expansion and to fulfill other opportunities, both of which seem too slow in coming to fruition currently.

Nah barrywhit:

It is because long-term holders of the company are selling out through a lack of information and a cohesive plan. The last "brave bold move" was not a budding success.

They set aside an amount at the last public meeting about £ 1 million quid to buy back shares if there was a substantial seller out there.

There is a substantial seller out there.

With a " collapse " in the share price from 37p to 21p.

What are the criteria? I asked and was told, that the BOD have this on constant review, and considers the best use of capital is in reinvestment in the current expansion plan.

Well that's not working is it?

Willing to take some comments on any other constructive suggestions as to how IOF moves forward.

I know some out there see my repetitive remarks as a winge. It is not.

Buybacks would have supported the legitimate exit of a few investors.

beercapafn - There was a production update on 12th April last year - a Wednesday.

Given that, when do you think we might get some news?

When I do come here, I often scratch my head at some, still supporting this management team. Although I don't agree with some points beercapfn repeatedly says, I do agree with him, and quite a few others that changes need to be made and this current management are not proactive enough to move Iofina forward, and into a position I feel they should be in by now, or even in 12 months time. I wasn't here in the glory days, and I am lucky enough to have a low margin, but like so many others have done, I am seriously considering my options as to moving on, because many others seem to be happy with what they have here, and I just don't get that kind of investing. All the best to all.

Market is weak at the moment, as a PI you are irrelevant, which they have demonstrated over the years...

Serraria - One thing you should understand, those running company are academics and not business men, if they were they would issued 10m share when share price was £2 and cleared all their debts, instead of waiting until share price was a few pence, which meant issuing substantially more shares creating greater dilution.

Thanks as ever serratia.

Good to have affirmation that iodine prices are stable. SQM a few week ago said they expect the price to remain stable for the rest of the year.

One thing other than the woes of Cosayach is I did read somewhere production from Japan is increasing slightly.

Additionally SQM have gone quiet on the new mine at Pampa Orcoma. I think this may have been delayed in the permitting process.

Anyway expecting some very solid production figures in the middle of the month.

Back in 2014 iodine was $38/kg, OCF( $6.7m), operating costs ($9.3m). The iodine price dropped to $20 by 2017. By then costs were halved and OCF was ($5.2m). Net debt stood at $16.2m.
The board was having to deal with inherited large debts badly set up new plants and a falling iodine price. Each year then the iodine price rose and in 2019 they moved to OCF positive. net debt had reduced to $6.7m. By 2022 the iodine price had risen to $59, OCF to $10m. Operating costs kept in check. Net debt down to $1.1m
In 2022 OCF was $10.0 m , net debt $1.1m so they were strong enough to start expanding with new plants.
That is a good management track record. The only thing I'd hoped for was a faster new plant deployment but it's not totally in their hands. Potential brine suppliers were going through mergers and brine supply issues were never going to be a priority for oil / gas producers so the expansion pace was / is not totally in IOF's control.
That's my view, some may think differently and I don't want to get dragged into this so I'm staying off board for the time being.

Off course I have an issue with the BOD, they are inept, the share price is languishing at 22p after collapsing 11 years ago, while the chairman uses our money like his personal piggy bank.

Wake up and smell the coffee!

Serratia - Good post, sadly will have no effect on Iof thou, they live in world of their own and whatever is said its just same old same old...I've held these since 2014, always give your investments a chance, well 10 years is long enough in my book...

If the company would come clean and explain all the problems they face and give idea why growth is so slow, it might help.

Many thanks Serratia. I think many on this board check in here mainly for posts such as yours, which are always appreciated.

From time to time I see people posting about batteries, but world demand seems to grow slowly and steadily without this as an application sucking in additional supply.

My recollection was IOF should even with increased costs be quite profitable at $63. Obviously a higher price is good, but where would you see the price of iodine in 12/18 months? It seems like it is at a low point now given fundamentals of the market.
