14/10/2022 12:29 | "If you send or receive a lot of parcels you'll see a lot of 2nd Class / RM48 taking over a week." ......... in which case the customer will use another carrier. The strikes are so stupid they beggar belief. Talk about shooting one's own foot! | thebutler
14/10/2022 12:09 | Havent all stamps without the new barcode got to be used by 31st December? | nakedmolerat
14/10/2022 11:40 | One day's strike doesn't result in post being just one day late. If you send or receive a lot of parcels you'll see a lot of 2nd Class / RM48 taking over a week. | exotic
14/10/2022 11:32 | Royal Mail employees have no clout whatsoever. Consequences of the strike - we get our post a day late (wow, and urgent communications are usually sent by email nowadays anyway) and the postie has a heavier sack (2 days post) to deliver. | thebutler
14/10/2022 11:26 | Price recovering I hear Quaki Quacktengi is to be the new head of the Royal Mail because he knows how to add up the true profit figure for the Royal Mail | spob
14/10/2022 11:18 | encarter #39, the board are mugging the CWU here and they are too stupid to realise | unastubbs
14/10/2022 11:16 | Way back many miners worshipped Skargill, King Arthur. The miners once had invincible industrial power power. He is now despised. Red Robbo in the motor industry led strikes when the cars they made were substandard, the company was losing money. Overstaffed, inefficient working practices. In the end 'Robbo' was sacked and the company eventually closed. If anything the posties should try to understand that they have very little industrial power. They are in a rapidly changing industry declining in key ares. | careful
14/10/2022 11:09 | The issue here illustrates the difference between the Private Sector and the Public Sector. The former, when times get tough, you cut your cloth accordingly. As to claims the Royal mail made a profit, proceeds going to shareholders - didnt they just report a stonking half term loss? The public sector bill continues to get out of control because its employees expect inflation busting wage increases all the time, and when it comes to cutting ones cloth according to the financial circumstances, they want to have their cake and eat it. The private sector cannot afford to continue subsidising an overpaid, and bloated public sector. Pensions for example, see Public sector workers get decent schemes that would cost private sector workers an arm & leg to get, even if on comparable salaries! Such a system is no longer sustainable. Harsh cuts are coming for all (forced on us as a result of a National Debt inspired financial crisis) We simply cant keep expanding Nat Debt levels at the rate we have been. | geckotheglorious

14/10/2022 10:26 | The CWU are happy to destroy the business to get what they want, which is re-nationalisation. Perhaps management would be happy with that too, or at least the loss making part. | encarter
14/10/2022 09:30 | CWU members are smart enough to see through this announcement for the scaremongering and threats that it represents. They've been there and seen it before when Rico was in charge and he left with his tail between his legs. Thompson and Williams will go the same way before Xmas, despite trying to set up McCauley as the fall guy, it's the only way to peace Apparently Thompson is not well regarded even by the non execs he recruited. I think the new management and a lot on here don't realise or understand the strength of feeling towards and benefits gained from solidarity within the union. The cwu look after their members well and they keep winning for them and WILL keep on winning for them. | fred splange
14/10/2022 09:01 | This dispute will not end until the employees lose faith in the CWU. Things will be different if they think that they will lose money and possibly their jobs. | careful
14/10/2022 08:46 | The only winners will Hermes etc as they will be all rubbing their hands as November the RM staff are on strike of half a month. Customers will use other services for parcels. I spoke to my local post office yesterday and it really effects her business to the point of she might shut and retire early. What a mess. | nakedmolerat
14/10/2022 08:30 | Great time to leave RMG with all the employers looking for staff ,hope the company will give us shares in GLS and split the company in two separate companies still UK based that will sort this problem. Unfortunately the unions can see that GLS is extremely profitable and want some of that added to their demands. Talked myself into buying a few more IDS now. | wskill
14/10/2022 08:25 | From CWU website... Why is the CWU in dispute with Royal Mail over pay? Our Royal Mail members have had an unagreed 2 per cent pay deal imposed on them. This is at a time when RPI inflation is currently running at 11.8 per cent and when Royal Mail has announced Group profits of £758 million and when the company is paying out many millions to private shareholders. In a national strike ballot over pay, our Royal Mail members voted by a 97.6 per cent majority to take action. -------------------- | spacecake
14/10/2022 08:11 | Canary in the coal mine for most of U.K. biz that have been overpaying low productivity staff thanks to useless Sunak giving away money during covid, hangover now for whole U.K. will be brutal and last a decade, a massive U.K. recession coming. Unemployment, parabolic interest rates and inflation thanks to ten years of Tory nightmare ( brexit fiasco anyone ) enjoy. | porsche1945
14/10/2022 07:43 | What a mess this business is in. Thought seeing 200 again recently was too good to be true and now I would not like to try and call where this will bottom out. No blame from me to either side but you can't deny it's a "Royal" mess. GLAH and any staff member if eventually forced into leaving. | tuftymatt
14/10/2022 07:42 | Down to 150p ..if they haven't sort the CWU out.. down to £1 | deanmatlazin
14/10/2022 07:38 | Easy to give staff generous pay and conditions during good times. Difficult to reverse it during bad times. Did I read 2 years pay for those that leave? They should offer that but if it is not taken after a certain date revert to Government minimum terms. | careful
14/10/2022 07:34 | Key points: -- Royal Mail H1 2022-23 adjusted operating loss of GBP219 million (2021-22: GBP235 million profit), including around GBP70 million of direct negative impacts from 3 days of industrial action; -- Royal Mail trading cash outflow in H1 of GBP274 million(1) (2021-22: GBP114 million inflow). On a pre-IFRS16 basis it was a GBP330 million(1) outflow (2021-22: GBP64 million inflow) Despite the current financial position, to date CWU has already taken 6 days of industrial action and formally notified Royal Mail of a further 2 days of damaging industrial action on 20 and 25 October, which are expected to go ahead. Royal Mail expects to incur a full year adjusted operating loss of around GBP350 million, including the direct impact of eight days of industrial action which have taken place or been notified to Royal Mail, but excluding any charges for voluntary redundancy costs. This may increase to around a GBP450 million loss if customers move volume away for longer periods following the initial disruption. Errrkkkkkk. Doom and Gloom . | deanmatlazin
14/10/2022 07:19 | Hope the CWU are happy now? | wiltowin |
