I'm surprised that no one is playing the 'Green' card, all that CO2 saved by not running circa 40k vehicles for one day a week. "So CWU you want to keep polluting the planet more than is necessary, not very Woke is it?" lol

More time off for the posties with no loss of pay, indeed the money saved by not running circa 40k vehicles for a day could provide a pay increase, a win win. Those CWU types are not very bright, but then neither is the government!

It's not really a windfall. They are saying the USO is unsustainable as it stands, point blank.

They should let it collapse and let the Government deal with it, they themselves on the verge of collapse.

Tempus column in The Times today says: Avoid

However if it isn’t the first rule of investing, it should be: do not put your money in a highly unionised company. In this case the Communication Workers Union is well-organised and rarely loses a fight. And would you bet on Royal Mail being the long term winner in a fight with lower-cost more flexible parcel delivery firms? And would you take a punt on the company receiving a cost-saving windfall from the abolition of the USO?
Advice: Avoid
Why? Strong unions, a rapaciously competitive parcel delivery market and inbuilt costs which are unlikely to be relieved by regulatory reform.

Good morning all,

Another broker upgrade yesterday, hence the rise despite Government muscle-flexing.

One moved from Hold/Neutral to Buy/Outperform yesterday. No time to investigate now so will leave it to sleuths on here. Good luck to all, it seems to be turning our way at last!

I see Dave Ward is still opposing any reduction in the USO, wanting RM to remain a bloated inefficient operation with archaic working practices and adhering to a pointless and unnecessary service obligation... purely because he doesn't want a reduction in the workforce meaning a reduction in the gravy train that is CWU membership subs.

If only posties could see that the CWU is an entirely self serving entity and doesn't act in the best interests of its members or the best interests of the business that provides those members with their livelihood.

Gargoyle2, RM have circa 40,000 vehicles, so not running that lot for one day a week is going to save a heck of a lot of money.

Possibly upto £200m has been bandied around.

From an investment perspective, how much will having a 5 (rather than 6) day per week service obligation help IDS? I think they were hoping for a much more radical restructuring of the USO. Still hoping for a bump in the share rice tomorrow though.

We appear to be the only Country left in the World holding on to a USO daily Postal Service that is not used or needed anywhere near times gone by.
It's a bit like having empty Milk Floats running round everywhere just to please about 8 people.

Depends. If it's RM24 or RM48 then it's zero compensation. Even if the tracking details (Delivery Confirmation number) indicate no delivery has occurred, then it's still zero compensation, and you can't even claim the cost of your postage back!

When it comes to deliveries and compensation then RM are the best

How many who need to make an appointment have a pc, internet at home?

Or use a smart phone?

Those most likely to need an appointment are the elderly, many of whom are wary of technology.

I myself get texts from GP but Ive had no need to book an appointment in decades, thankfully.

Easier to go to A&E yes. Hence overloaded.

Many are generally unhealthy / hypochondriacs too! (The younger ones generally)

We , as a nation, are far less hardy than we were 40 years ago

You have to log in to their site and make an appointment to get them to call YOU. Only then will they consider an appointment of which I have not had one for years due to the crazy, slow, almost pointless system.
This is why so many just go to the Hospitals and why they are so overloaded.

ISIS

Have you tried calling your GP over the last year.

You'd be on the phone for an hour at least trying to confirm any appointment - that's if you even knew you had one!!!!

The other ridiculous claim from people is that they are not getting their Hospital/Doctor appointment Letters on time. So are they saying that they write to their Doctors and Hospitals to get an appointment and then wait for a Letter to come back to confirm?
Laughable of course they don't - they ring them up, email or may even go up there but you can be sure they do FA by Post. Just a load of whinging to keep an archaic system going at tremendous cost and the media to play on.

I know it is the individual Employee who is at fault but the audacity to play the same trick 2 days running really riled me! And after the Evri loss I was taking no chances with expensive items.
The feking Cheek of it! This is a no through Road so there's no way in or out without seeing them!

This Government are not listening to it's voters, Business Leaders or RM on any common sense issue at all.
Sunak couldn't run a Sweet Shop let alone a Country they are on their way to a Wipe out!

Can't say I've ever had that with RM ever and most parcels I've had come via them. A Hermes delivery from last year was taken from the Door as no notification or door Bell - was never compensated. Lucky wasn't a large amount.
RM do not deliver unless Consignee is there from my experience if it won't go through Letter Box.

Yep. I've had that many times too. Usually with yodel or hermes. It's like when bus companies remove a bus from finishing it's whole journey... it helps with statistically meeting service targets.... and so, probably end of year bonuses too
