Take That... 11.5% over three years is pretty good and not many other employees would be getting that sort of commitment from their employer right now. It certainly isn’t rubbish.

My understanding is that the pilots are more upset about shares and profit share than the 11.5% base salary increase.

Monty, is that the best answer you can give? I give you facts and you give me what a couple of cabin crew said. What do they know about the running of the company? They could have been put out because the pilots had first choice on the food that day.I fly regularly. I've seen cabin crew in all sorts of shapes, sizes, mental abilities and attitudes. I would say that 2 cabin crew is not representative of the cabin crew fraternity , nor even if they were, would it really count for much. I'm talking Company financials here not their own personal avarice.Regarding their Union being weak and potential strike action, you didn't reply to my sporting bet in post #11271. Money where your mouth is?

Don't worry it's just Monty trying to talk the share price down so he can buy back in at a lower level.
We'll all notice the change in his tone once he's back in ;)

Traffic and capacity report for September, later this morning.Going to be interesting no trader surely expecting any great numbers with 3 days of strikes, planes out of position either side of dates.Should all be in the price though, not has if it's come out the blue.

Of course pure greed, I spoke to a couple of cabin staff, they said pilots just being greedy, so when colleagues say greed, I agree.

Monty, do you realise that they are going for 11.5% over THREE years? You seem hell bent on calling them greedy. I'm wondering if you think that the 11.5% is in ONE year?I've rationalised this in my mind as a 4% year 1 , 4% year 2 and 3.5% year 3. Given that RPI forecasts are all over the place RPI could go up hugely. The one forecast I tend to use, has a non-cumulative figure of just over 9.5% for the THREE year period. See https://www.statista.com/statistics/374890/retail-price-index-rpi-forecast-united-kingdom-uk/If that prediction comes true, then the pilots would only be 0.66% per year better off in real terms, so not what I would call greedy at all. In fact, as they don't have an RPI underpin in the current offer, they could even go backwards if RPI is greater. Considering that they say that they are trying to claw back lost earnings from previous gives, it does not look excessive at all. I would bite their arm off for it. Although, I do not know why they would have allowed other staff groups to be pegged to the pilots negotiations. I think they've dropped the ball there. My concern though is the potential harm being done to the brand by not accepting the pilots pay request. Sure we can see the T & Cs later today but what will the damage look like going forward if this continues? I was talking to some guests at a dinner party over the weekend when the subject (after Brexit and a few other usual suspects) happened to turn to BA. All the people round the table have changed their allegiance away from BA, mainly due to repeated poor customer service. Most were at least gold card holders. I sat and listened to their woeful tales and I've got to say that it was shocking how they had been treated with intransigence and disdain, instead of respect and value. Lost bags should not take days of phone calls from n hold to outsourced overseas call centres etc. They nearly all cited "lack of empathy". Given that most of these staff are working for third party contractors, is there any wonder? A number complained about cost cutting. After spending many thousands of pounds on first class tickets, they should not have to be offered the 3rd choice of 3 meals as the only available or something from Club. How much does it really cost to keep them happy by over stocking? This is where I see much of the problem that BA face going forward. There is a saying about knowing the cost of everything and the value of nothing. When you think back to travel 30 years ago with BA, the service was pretty exemplary, you felt special. I fear that this cutting ones nose off, to spite your face attitude towards staff groups and recently the pilots will be one more example of alienating staff, to the brands detriment.

Unbelievable channel 4 on Thomas Cook Collapse.21,000 sacked some going to food banks, BA pilots turn down 11.5% plus bonus, making about a 20,000 grand rise.No wonder than called off 27th Sept strike, seen has bully boy tactics and pure greed.

Monty - you really need to read up on the data breach ruling more closely - "The number of claimants could skyrocket after Mr Justice Warby ruled other potential victims of the attack had a 15 month window to join the group legal action."

So the 5230 you have highlighted is potentially just the tip of the iceberg. No idea where you get the £1000 per person compensation from but suspect like most things you have just made it up without any real evidence to back it up!!

mh....agree! As for perks being used or not, I can advise that I have direct knowledge that retired BA cabin crew are using 10% cost perk this last week to fly to M/E, South Africa, and Australia. Business Class was available and used. Again I sincerely hope that the current dispute on wages/conditions can be mutually agreed asap.

So we have:

1. Yet more BA strikes looming according to the posts above

2. Major compensation claims set to flood in now approved by the UK High Court for the appalling data breach

3. Massive compensation claims set to flood in related to the terrible harm & losses caused to customers by the strike actions - did someone say "try to limit it to" £3 Billion?

4. ex-PPI companies are now fervently looking for a new cash cow with the BA issues in their current advertising

5. the shorter montyhedge repeatedly stating that the worst BA numbers in ages are to be published on Monday

With news & friends like that, who needs enemies eh?

The key line is from "BA that they have found no evidence of fraud/fraudulent activity on accounts linked to the theft" Lawyers will have to bear the costs on a pro bono basis if any claims being made. I really think that very very few have a genuine claim, but I guess some will try. Others may disagree but I think BA once they discovered the criminal activity did act as quickly as possible, and in good faith, taking positive action to mitigate the problem caused.

Only 5239 claiming compensation, say 1000 pounds each at most, surely. Ok more join in. I thought BA said no one had a loss.
On the fine IAG of course appealing, fine could have been a lot higher, dodge a bullet there, analyst said not worried, because it's a one off. IAG adrs finished up 1.44% in US.

IAG's British Airways Customers Granted Data Breach Compensation Claim

Fri, 4th Oct 2019 18:58
Alliance News

(Alliance News) - Thousands of British Airways customers have been given the go ahead to bring compensation claims against the airline at the UK High Court over a data breach.

Justice Warby granted a group litigation order at a hearing in London on Friday, paving the way for a mass legal action against International Consolidated Airlines Group SA-owned BA.

The airline suffered a cyber attack on its systems, which an investigation by the UK Information Commissioners Office found affected about 500,000 customers.

Personal details, including payment data and addresses, were compromised by the hack, according to the ICO.

Part of the scam involved passengers being diverted to a fake website, through which their details were harvested by the attackers.

The airline informed the ICO and began to contact affected customers when it discovered the breach in September 2018.

There are currently more than 5,000 affected customers being represented by SPG Law and a further 230 represented by Your Lawyers Ltd, who are bringing claims for compensation.

But the potential number of claimants is much larger and the judge granted a window of 15 months from the hearing on Friday for people to join the group litigation. Aman Johal, director of Your Lawyers, said: "Today's grant of a group litigation order is a key step towards justice for the hundreds of thousands of victims of the British Airways data breach scandal."

The ICO announced its intention in July this year to impose a record fine of more than GBP183 million on BA over the breach, which is believed to have started in June 2018.

A spokesman for the watchdog said at that time that the proposed fine would be the largest it has handed out and the first to be made public since new rules came into force.

The General Data Protection Regulation came into force in May last year and means firms can be fined up to 4% of annual turnover for data breaches.

The proposed fine represents 1.5% of BA's annual turnover.

The ICO's investigation found that a variety of information was compromised by "poor security arrangements", including log in, payment card and travel booking details as well as customers' names and addresses.

In a statement after the fine was announced, Information Commissioner Elizabeth Denham said: "People's personal data is just that –; personal.

"When an organisation fails to protect it from loss, damage or theft it is more than an inconvenience.

"That's why the law is clear –; when you are entrusted with personal data you must look after it.

"Those that don't will face scrutiny from my office to check they have taken appropriate steps to protect fundamental privacy rights."

Alex Cruz, British Airways' chairman and chief executive, said at the time that the airline was "surprised and disappointed" in the ICO's initial finding.

He added: "British Airways responded quickly to a criminal act to steal customers' data.

"We have found no evidence of fraud/fraudulent activity on accounts linked to the theft.

"We apologise to our customers for any inconvenience this event caused."
