It’s going to be over pretty quickly, but it’s going to be very nasty. Italy’s figures show a doubling every 4 days (look at the stats). By 27 April and unchecked, 25 million will be infected. This is close to the 60% required for a drop off in infection rates due to herd immunity.

I think it will be much less likely to contract if you isolate in a rural area. Our international metropoli will be very severely impacted imho.

If China is opening up, as others say how come Cathay Pacific have reduced their flights even further, reducing them by 96% and have completely grounded all the aircraft of their low cost carrier.

962....we do seem to be following the USA I admit.

Toon.....I think o'leary has stuffed Walsh. He really needs to announce a 50% salary haircut. However, maybe the wages announcement by Sunak this evening will mean that BA can postpone the Unpaid leave request ?

Did you really think the Gov would say live on TV that they would bail out IAG/airlines? Gov’s around the world will focus first on the worker because of 2008.

HMG have to be seen to be doing something.

Saw the film recently of how to cope with an H Bomb attack in the 1950's.
'get under the stairs, cover yourself up with bed and drink plenty of water'.

They must have thought the public were stupid, but as now, the children want to believe that Mummy and Daddy will mend everything.

M1kly The oil situation is all political Saudi want control back of oil . They are sick if US shale pumping oil and holding back oil prices Current oil price is hurting all of them . They are need cut supply together . If Russia and US do not play ball , Saudi has the capacity to pump away and keep prices low . This will hurt US big time .Trunp has elections coming up . Oil will recover once this is sorted and it will not be months .

This belief the the government can throw money at the problem.
Not a money tree more a money forest.

The government has no money, it has to get it from somewhere.

Some suggestions on this thread seem to suggest that HMG can give everyone a cash boost and cancel all of their financial obligations.

so let us all grow up.
There is little that HMG can do to save the situation if it goes on for a few months.

We are all going to get poorer.

Toon, I think they will subsequently discover genetic predispositions to
This. Not genetic disorders, genetic traits which leave you more vulnerable. They have already identified the potential for blood group to be one of these.

Anyone wondered why Germany has more than 4 times the number of covid-19 cases than we do but we have more than 4 times as many deaths? Of the people that died in the last 24 hours in the UK all had underlying health problems including a 99 year old....you don't say!! Rant over everyone, stay well.

ham...I agree. Oil has to drop as demand will be substantivally down with all these aircraft not flying.
USA and Russia will also be impacted.

When you look at the Global impact that this will have, country by country, it is very difficult to imagine that any of them will want the existing measures to remain in place for any length of time.
