Smithy.....social distancing will be relaxed. Pubs, bars , restaurants etc won't be able to deal with 12 months of social distancing. Lots of other businesses also rely on large numbers of people in close proximity.

If PHE manage to develop the test that establishes whether you have already had the virus , it may be that you will have to provide this information when booking a flight ?

Obviously I don't know but I can envisage some form of scanning or testing having to be undertaken prior to being in large social environments.

The world, could not wait until there are NO cases of Cobvid-19 before resuming normal operation, so compromises will be made.
They say the virus will mutate and that we will be living with it , in one form or another forever apparently.
So, they will find a resolution and life will go on.

see Daily Mail saying Easyjet asking their staff and pilots to take 3 months unpaid leave, surely they can't do that.

Monty they can and they are. Very flexible industry, this has happened before (SARS/9/11) and furloughs are quite common.

Iberia instigated 90% workforce furlough for 3 months. Issue this time is how long will go on for. Social distancing for 12 months isn’t going to work wonders for the industry . If we don’t see some form of recovery/breakthrough in treatment, can’t see any other outcome other than this falling again in the short term.

Some of the current proposals for BA.
1. Not looking for government support as 9.3B in liquidity.
2. 75% of current L/H operation to be cancelled.
3. Shorthaul operation is flexible but currently 40% reduction
4. All A380, B747 and B777 to be parked. B787 and A350 to continue operating

My guess whilst others are, FTSE100 will dip below 4000 over next 6 months. But like others, it's a guess.

Coronavirus action plan suggestion by DC

Government should legislate that:
No mortgages, rent, loans, repayments, interest or taxes due are payable by individuals or businesses etc for an initial period of 3 months.
Utility bills suspended for 3 months. Water Gas Electricity. Balance to be repaid over a 3 year period.
All non essential businesses to close for 3 months
All staff to be paid via PAYE their average monthly salary over the last 6 months up to a maximum equivalent to double statutory sick pay for 3 months. (Approximately up to £200 a week) Businesses to be repaid by government via PAYE.
Airline pilots and cleaners will receive the same £200 a week to cover food and insurance premiums and will have few other expenses during the 3 month period.
All staff to be given a loan of £500 through PAYE to be repaid through PAYE over a period of 3 years.
Landline calls to be free for 3 months
Free mobile phone calls and texting
Subscription TV channels like Sky to be free for 3 months to everybody but not via internet. (only via freeview, satellite and cable)
Free broadband and mobile data but limited by a weekly cap. Maximum possible without compromising service to essential services and businesses.
National emergency wage of £10 an hour for temporary staff needed to work in essential services like NHS, care homes, food production and distribution.
Hotels and restaurants etc to provide premises and staff, to provided food and accommodation for NHS staff to allow them to work as much as possible and to self isolate from their families if they need to.
Bank of England interest rates are now 0.1%
Government directly or via banks provide loans at 0.1% for 3 years to businesses to facilitate the above
Government to compensate businesses for emergency response costs but not profits of providing these services.

Punitive fines or imprisonment for those who commit crimes during emergency period. Burglary, fraud assault and coercion. e.g. Forcing somebody to pay rent, interest or repayments would result in a fine equal to 10x the money paid

Example. A restaurant with £10k in the bank can close in April. They have no bills to pay for 3 months. Staff are not made redundant. Staff receive enough to buy food and have few other bills to pay. At the end of the 3 months the restaurant still has £10k in the bank to reopen their business.

3 months is just an example and could be extended to any necessary length of time.

Just an idea. If you think it is a good idea please forward this to everybody so it can be discussed further.

Oh space! Now you've said it I'm going long. Big Chinese stimulus package plus airline bailout being prepared. My prediction is ftse to brush 5200 and then rise towards close with a 50/50 chance at gapping up or down significantly over the weekend depending on the news. Toss a coin and take your pick. I think this will end in the blue though a long way from your prediction of 179. Terms are sure to be far better than the NZ deal. You're not as wrong as last time though. You're improving!

We shall all have to carry on normally in the future, get back to work.
Obviously with habits modified, more hand washing, no man hugs, keeping away from people as we would with a cold or flu.

Sensible precautions, but next year HMG should ensure that we have more ventilators, masks, staff facilities so that we can cope.

I personally have told all beautiful young women that they must refrain from hugging and kissing me.
Cruel to be kind.
