One thing which would tip the country over is a power cut, then all that frozen food would go off!

All of this government money.
Spending and promises, spending like a drunken sailor.

This will end badly.
Economic illiteracy.
Already the pound is down to $1.15.

Foreign investors are baling out, soon gilt yields will rise and that will force interest rates up.

A dire situation, dumping UK treasuries and getting out of the £ is what anyone would do after watching the new chancellor go crazy.
Maggie must be turning in her grave.

We must all accept that we are going be a lot poorer. Seeing these highly leveraged money managers on CNBC beg for help is pathetic.

Back to the 1950's, get used to it.

China has seen a slight recovery in its domestic aviation market as people there return to work.

Sorry off topic.

Typical smoke and mirrors. UK GOV can't resist it.
It appears that the 3 month mortgage reprieve , isn't as it seems . You will actually be 'deferring' your mortgage payments for 3 months and will still be expected to repay the interest that compounds during the term.

So, the big announcement from the Chancellor, will actually mean that your debt will be increasing, rather than UK GOV picking up the bill.

It will in fact cost UK GOV nothing !

Edinburgh News

"In response to the government’s announcement, UK Finance, which represents financial firms, has outlined how the mortgage payment holiday will work.

The mortgage repayment is deferred for a period. The monthly payment changes to zero, and interest accrues for the period.

Where repayments are deferred for a time, the borrower will need to make up these repayments in the future, which could be over the remaining term "

Loganair, it’s why they won’t touch the money. WW wont accept seeing his retirement fund smoked with government now moving towards a China style lockdown, China looking as through they are through the other side (a country with lots of old people, habitual smokers and the worst smog on the planet). China locked down less than a month ago. They are now nearly through the other side. IAG have at least 6 months burn cash. That’s without the reduction in spend as It looks as if they are actually operating a reasonable number of aircraft and not grounded, reducing the burn rate.

Government advisors now commenting that this is likely to be mainly done by June.

When all this first started I posted IAG going to 50p and Easyjet to 100p.

If the government has to step in, remember the banks. Before the financial crises of 2008 Lloyds high of 1200p, since the financial crises and the government taking a stake they have not even reached 100p and as for RBS in old money they topped out a £55 before the financial crises and have barely reached £3 since.

IAG won’t take the cash. By not doing so it sends a very loud message to the market.

It also gives leverage when government up taxation to pay for bailouts, they can claim they didn’t participate and want relief.

What will help is knowing the cash is there if the situation deteriorates.

Why Is Boris going to help? He needs to agree a coordinated message with Spain or this will go bust

Markets will pick up again maybe in November if centrist Joe Biden wins, which is looking likely now.
Although if the election is postponed for 12 months due to circumstances then market would head south again possibly.

I think at 110p IAG would be a steal.

You could liquidate the company, sell off the assets and I am sure you will have more than made 2billion once the separate entities are flogged off - although who is going in the market to buy passenger planes!

It's pretty nuts, not even substantial central intervention can support stock prices... You got to wonder how much stocks / indexes will still fall before bottoming out.
