Draft Marine Plan for Northern Ireland

Public Consultation Report - Summary of Responses
April 2021

See page's 58 to 61 on the subject of Energy per link below:
Extract from Departmental Response on the subject of Energy -
'In working with policy leads, we will improve clarity of language and take the opportunity to signpost relevant guidance and approved good practice. We will reflect developments in relation to a new NI Executive Energy Strategy. Consideration will also be given to recognising floating technologies for tidal and offshore wind and offshore substations, the need for grid connections for energy proposals, along with the potential for oil and gas, and gas unloading and storage.'

Edit: The above report published in April 2021 may have an influence on the ML decision & in particular the extract above.(ML= Marine License).

Posting today on LSE by oldtramp & then me:

INFAToday 07:56
Apologies if this has been posted before
“ The Islandmagee facility available near Larne in NI can be used to facilitate the migration away from NG towards hydrogen and the eventual operational support of an all-island hydrogen grid. This facility can also be used as a hub for hydrogen for mobility applications. This dual use suggests that any future hydrogen plan should be centred on maximising the exploitation of this resource. Connection via gas grid interconnectors will act in a similar way to how they do today for NG, as the UK system has a network of NG storage caverns – which will also likely be migrated to hydrogen over time. This is the only such facility on the island of Ireland and therefore it should be an area of focus for any future hydrogen implementation plans.”

Hi oldtramp - This is a great find see extract from full report below page 14:

'Islandmagee, near Larne in County Antrim, is the location of a project of common interest (PCI) that is developing a low-cost fast cycle gas storage facility that will serve the island of Ireland and mainland UK. Seven caverns will be developed, with a combined storage capacity of up to 500 Mm3 of gases. Project members are currently in talks with regulatory authorities in relation to discharge consent and marine construction licences needed to confirm the projects go ahead.
The project at Islandmagee and the development of storage caverns to store NG builds experience and capability in NI. This will enable decarbonisation transitions, with the NG network seeing increased hydrogen concentrations and storage capability in the Larne salt deposits.'

I would add that this report dated March 2021 must push the Marine License over the finish line and yet no mention by INFA.This is surely a game changer !!!!!!!!

What research is there verifying that transferring energy from the atmosphere via wind turbines is safe for the climate? There is NO such research.

Just a quick comment...Interesting that the 'Once in a lifetime' opportunity (as described below) will blight the Shannon Estuary with wind turbines, yet the main objection to the 'Islandmagee' project is that it's a 'NIMBY' 'monstrosity'.

"we should be in a position to win further contracts of larger value given that we have time and again demonstrated our technical and commercial capabilities to the satisfaction of vessel owners. We expect to make further announcements to the market in due course."

Bought in here. Yes I know the dilution has happened. But cash generating by year end is attractive to me ...

A very disappointing share price performance, despite progress on the ground.

I have not and will not be increasing here.

Existing investment to remain in the bottom drawer.

Was JW the CEO of MSC or not? Sounds like he didn't have a clue what was going on under his nose. Hardly inspiring huh

What are you insinuating? A fraudster was discovered, prosecuted and jailed. Nothing whatsoever to do with JW.

Really, so a queue of people lining up saying that they were made serial broken promises, a business partner that took millions out of the company and was jailed for tax fraud is Ok then

To be fair...this was a prelude to the 2008 Financial Collapse...the worst economic disaster since the 2029 Great Recession.... to which must be added...

'MSC bosses say they too are a victim of non-payment by suppliers, particularly an unnamed "international shipyard" which they say failed to make payments on a key £2.4m contract. This triggered a cash flow problem, which was too severe for the firm to survive..'

A lot of companies went to the wall as a result of the 2008 financial Collapse.

For those that think John Wood is the investors champion, you may want to check out his history at (now collapsed) MSC where he mislead suppliers and appears to have extracted millions from the company. His business partner Chris Rogers was jailed for fraud for avoiding tax on the cash he siphoned off from the company. Wood, whose reputation was in tatters, fled to Australia. Just remember that leopards never change their spots.PS how is it going rampers? 50p bargain price huh. Now sub placing. Where is the cash going to come to pay the differed payment for Appledore later in the year, and what about the cash for keeping the lights on? Where are all these Government shipbuilding contracts that were promised?https://www.dailyecho.co.uk/business/1752102.31m-collapse-of-ship-re-fitter-leaves-suppliers-fearing-ruin/https://www.dailyecho.co.uk/news/12956925.jail-for-businessman-christopher-rogers-after-17m-tax-fraud/

volsung has a point.
I have shares in Greenland Minerals, an Australian company with a large rare earths resource in Greenland. All was looking good until the recent general election there which brings to power a party opposed to the development of this mine.
The local people fear not unreasonably that this would have a dire impact on their environment and on their traditional way of life.
Greenland has a tiny population and most Greenlanders live within 100 miles of the minesite at the southern extremity of the country.
I suspect, however, that the number of "menschen" affected by the proposed construction at Islandmagee forms a very small proportion of the population of Northern Ireland.
