Hmmm....

Can't help but wonder if the famous 'shorter' WorldQuant isn't really smiling as the share price goes up.

Feel like buying another 10K shares. Just trying to convince myself it is worth adding more.

It fits the sentiment driven trading strategy WorldQuant proclaim.

Shout about the negative - mandatory 0.5% disclosure of a short.

Keep the positive hidden. Long position hidden up to 3%.

Hmmm ....

That didn't take long - if this is a confirmed break from the downtrend things will get very interesting from here...

Some are getting nervous that they're underexposed.

You can't tell me that a hedge fund like them won't have a guaranteed exit price on a short if it goes pear-shaped

I don't believe it

The only way I imagine Quant would have done this to minimise risk would to have some kind of agreement with a large holder that they can buy 700,000 shares at price x (before the short was taken out).
This agreement would be valid for say 60 days and they pay a commission to have the facility in place.

The commission charge would mean they have the optionto buy but not obliged.

Makes sense if a large holder wanted to reduce holding without having to pump into market now.

Am I mad?
Is this the best conspiracy yet?

Comments welcome.

Paxman - WorldQuant might have a 1.5 million share long position. They will have a winning trade whatever the results. They are a hedge fund.

The trouble with WorldQuant's strategy is as every day goes by the probability of a headline trial results RNS being released that day goes up.

So even if you assign a very modest probability of success - say 55% - to the trial results, and we know if the trial results are 'bad' then maybe a 50p share price and if they are 'good' then 200p plus on opening, the maths doesn't make sense and makes less sense day by day. ( The data to date supports a much higher than 55% chance of success.)

The only mathematical reason to short is momentum on the downside. That momentum is only a function of profit taking and avoiding a possible - even if unlikely - capital loss on 'bad' trial results. When the down momentum stops and for the moment it looks like it has, then the maths is now against WorldQuant and progressively so. My guess is come beginning March they'll buy back as we really will be moving into likely RNS time.

So the quants probably have an algorithm like 'Stop shorting if it doesn't go down 2 in 3 days. Buy back if it goes up 2 in 3 days. Back back after 7 March whatever.'

WorldQuant are playing a very dangerous game the nearer it gets to the results the less chance they have of picking the shares up at a cheap price. Having panicked small investors into selling they should have closed there short. If the trial results are positive they could lose a fortune.

I've researched, worried, thought negatives, quivered and dreamed positives. I've mulled and pondered again for a long time and gone back to my plan. Chaps and fellow volunteers, I have gone further into the fray and bought yet more shares in Immupharma (not shown!!). I don't want to tempt fate, but the downside is not being in "biggly". Perhaps I'm a fool but I’ve measured the ways and how I would kick myself and Hamlet's soliloquy out of the door; neigh, to France! For to be is to count. Not to be is nothing. I do believe Tim is saying what he believes. I also believe Dr. Muller is sure of her work and her team. The upside is a dream worth risking and it is now the largest investment in my portfolio. I hope we are all at the depth of a great new rise in medicine and a similar stock chart. Forwards and upwards.

"only people in are those who know about the phase 3 results" Che7win - I'm "in", not buying more and I don't know the results! Why would any investor who wants to get in PRE results risk not getting in if they leave it until March and results say came out next week. If we knew the date in advance I would agree with you - but we don't. I think this is why we are stuck where we are with the price up 200% since 6 months ago and volume slowing down - looks like a holding pattern to me.

growth,
We probably will get a run up - only people in are those who know about the phase 3 results.

I think the news will filter out to the investment community, some will go in just for results as we approach March

How can posters keep saying it will run up as we get closer to results when those results could be tomorrow? We have no target date to move up to so everyone is guessing. Its almost a case of chicken. Do you risk waiting until tomorrow to buy to get in PRE results, do you wait until next week or are you already in? I think most are already in and just counting the days.

I'm not sure we are going to get much price movement at all until either news leaks or we get yet more quotes from Tim. I know its nice if the price goes up a bit and if the price suddenly jumped 10% in a day I think it could trigger a stampede - thats would be entertaining to watch - but would either be a leak or fake news that causes it. But a slow steady run up - I doubt it.
