Pretty much all AIM managements are shameless - just check the option packages - and promotion is part of their job description, so there's no point in singling the IKA lot out for that.

On the other hand, the lack of design wins since the inception of the company is a concern. I've just checked and the wholesalers eg Mouser and RS, that one might expect to stock these batteries in one form or another don't appear to. So how are they expected to diffuse into the market?

I fear that this technology is only ever going to provide 'micro-scale' batteries for which there will, eventually be a good market - but not yet.

I would like to have been at that conference the last couple of days, I'm sure it would have been fascinating, I've looked for articles covering Graeme Purdy's participation but unable to find anything so far. Nothing on the company twitter feed, which is a missed opportunity I feel

Faraday Battery Challenge award winners - Ilika technologies

Innovate UK
Published on 14 Sep 2018

CO2 emissions are a major problem worldwide,
and I think it's universally accepted that electric vehicles will have a major impact on reducing those levels.

To encourage the uptake of electric vehicles we need to enable them to drive further, to charge faster and to be safer.

At the moment most electric vehicles have to be charged overnight.

Within this project we're aiming to develop a solid-state battery technology that will allow efficient charging.

So within thirty minutes that you could fully charge the vehicle.
The benefits of solid-state batteries are longer life, higher energy density and power density and higher safety.

Ilika is best known for its work in solid-state batteries.

I think we're recognised as being a pioneer in the industry.

The Faraday Challenge is a real catalyst for bringing together organisations and we will be working together with the CPI, with UCL, with Ricardo and with Honda.

And this will allow us to be able to address the supply chain all the way through from materials provision to testing in automotive realistic conditions.

The program will allow us to invest in a facility which is double the size of our existing lab.

In addition to that we will be employing eight highly skilled staff that will help us generate this technology.

We hope to deliver a solid-state battery which will significantly increase the uptake of electric vehicles both in the UK and worldwide.

looking good, watched these fall rapidly over time but there is definable market place for batteries, the shipment looks promising so lets see what happens... in terms of the Chairman well what can is say..

Ilika Plc

("Ilika" or the "Company")

Pre-launch samples of mm-scale Stereax(R) batteries shipped

Ilika plc (AIM: IKA), the advanced solid-state battery technology and materials innovation company, announces that it has commenced shipment of pre-launch evaluation samples of its mm-scale Stereax(R) batteries.

Ilika's mm-scale battery, code-named Golden Hind, is designed for miniature medical implants, which account for about 50% of the current commercial opportunities in Ilika's licensing pipeline. The cells are fabricated on standard semiconductor industry wafers using Ilika's proprietary vacuum deposition technique. The cells are etched from the materials deposited on the wafer and singulated using standard industry back-end processing techniques. lIika has developed the materials and process technologies to make these cells on its pilot line in Southampton, UK and to align with customer demands.

Shipments have now commenced to global OEM commercial partners in the USA and Asia, developing mass-market medical products that benefit from the unique properties of these cells including mm-scale dimensions, intrinsically-safe solid-state biocompatibility and long lifecycle.

Golden Hind prototypes are currently undergoing parallel evaluation at Ilika's facility to fully qualify the cells for a product launch in early 2019.

The Golden Hind product is the latest in the Stereax(R) product portfolio that includes the M250 (for smart home automation) and the P180 (for deployments at temperatures up to 150 degC in industrial environments).

or could it be:
Batteries now on longest lead time I've ever experienced in 19 years. VRLA, gel, industrial batteries now 18-week lead time ex-Germany OEM. Despite extra shifts at factory, completely unable to keep up with demand. Usual lead time is 2-3 weeks. Prices also near record highs

DC motor/gearbox units .. Italian & Slovenian OEM's quoting 9-12 month lead times!!! usually 2 months. The large auto OEM's have hoovered all available supplies of specialist gearbox shafts and bearings for years ahead as the likes of BMW, Mercedes etc all push hard to bring new EV's to market asap. Prices all increasing.

thanks to Matjos on another board
