At best you’re making a distinction without a difference, at worst you’re affecting moral outrage at genocide in one corner of history, whilst flat out ignoring it in another, just to suit your point.

..Native north Americans again. At least some survived the genocide, so not "absolute destruction"..... Anyway, probably best we agree to disagree, unless you know of a board elsewhere on advfn where we coud discusss the pros & cons of genocide?

It was not intended to be amusing - it was a shorthand for the point that postcolonial studies is an extremely complex subject, and is it not a simple case that imperialism left nothing but absolute destruction in its wake.I take Orwell's line on it in any case, and regard Imperialism as one of the great threats that had to be overcome in the twentieth century alongside fascism and communism in order for humanity to progress to a better condition. But my challenge to you was that a new form of imperialism is materialising that takes a different form to its former geographical one, and China most definitely cannot be ignored in this respect, regardless of the history of European imperialism.
