Apologies. No time today to read through all the wonderful (and sometimes not!) messages. Can someone briefly update on where HUR are with the hook up? Cheers!

Sorry for less than clear post (was just setting off on day tour on Mekong)I meant to infer, for the counter point of view, taking drastic, relatively ineffective, action to limit Climate Change.

When the polymath -Aubrey Manning- looked at the issue of global warming, he presented a wonderful programme that looked at geological history from antiquity- and postulated that extreme weather systems were cyclical- and unstoppable. His final words on the matter- which made great sense to me- was that despite mankinds activities- “planetary warming is an inevitable consequence of the machinery that drives the universe”. He basically said we cannot stop it- we can only prepare for it. This was some years before Al Gore’s film. I am very much on the side of Aubrey Manning on this one.

Rahosi , like many I don’t disbelief what you have said , vice versa the counter argument !

However the risk if they are correct is unimaginable!

Yes for many it’s a money maker , a gravy train , but such things drive technology , design parameters , new ways to build , new things to react to .

Someone the other day posted a link of Ramez Naam discussing how technology has massively been driven by cheaper infinite power sources and how it’s inky digital technology that can become non linear cheaper by many fold over a short timeframe.

Sometimes Propaganda is true and necessary

Global Warming AKA Climate Change is a theory put forward predominantly by scientists whose monthly salary is dependent on providing proof said theory is reality.Gordian Knot .... not?Anyone who has handled data knows it can be massaged to prove black is white - seek hard enough (or not) and you will find your desired outcome.

I have been (don't ask the circs) once on the vip variant of the voyager flying tanker (also used for air to air refuelling and troop transport, only the front part is vip, business class bit behind then regular), a converted A330, and when used to transport Philip Hammond, Theresa May or Prince Charles, plus a few extras, that is a vast hunk to fly around. It was funny to watch the inconvenient truth, as at the end it shows Al Gore flying to a european climate change event, begging countries for more action. An aerial photo of his large house showed all the lights on and bad insulation, if I remember rightly. He boasted of going under the north Pole in a nuclear submarine, but then speaking of low carbon generation he was only able to mention solar, tidal, wave and wind, and couldn't bear in a 2 hour film to mention nuclear power. Another time Dave Cameron went to greenland in the ministerial private jet (predecessor to the voyager) just to be filmed with some huskies and chat about ice. Princess Di used to use concorde. What ARE they like, these luvvies!

Fat , yes those that are holier than thou ( ie bono whose Hat has had at times it’s own personal flight from NY to Florence )don’t set examples , The Royal Family being other prime examples!
However if millions do rather than don’t it reduces the risk !

If as a species , greed , laziness , consumerism, ego , hubris and being bellicose destroys the planet such is life .
However we are not alone and owe a service to every other species on this planet

Gibso, unless you live like hermit there's not much in real terms a person can do, you could turn the heating down a degree or two and don't be lead footed when driving but in truth all that's negated by people like the royals swanning around in helicopters and the not so royals swanning about in private jets, these same people telling us we're f##king the planet ffs, check out the number of private planes currently, my carbon footprint dosnt even register by comparison.

When all the optimists opted for FOIL before Xmas, did they state which one?
Did anyone put late March or even early April (2019 hopefully)?!!!

Science , Lobbying, Political bias can be bought , curtailed and controlled .
However re Global Warming it’s a THEORY !

Ie based on significant scientific data , but primarily due to it being in the past and ongoing it cannot be proven .

But it’s best to err on side of caution and if not believe in it , carry out environmental friendly ways of life , the alternative is to scary to think off

'Draw power' ... from where? For decades every government has been paralysed by fear of doing something to address diminishing base load power generation. The UK is partially dependant on generation equipment well past its sell by date. Without the interconnect typically to French nuclear power stations, we would already be on regular brown outs. Now it is prothletised that in the very near future we will all just plug in our cars. Dream on! More likely we will be waiting for the Sun to shine whilst the wind blows AND the tide turns (etc) so we can only then charge our vehicles for those that work to go to work. Until then take ones cue from our polititicians and twiddle ones thumbs (however will get repetitive thumb strain).

I thought the Flintstones had the best idea.
Apparently induction pads are they way 'tommorows' EV's will charge - no plugging in just drive over.

ebb.. I suggested that a few days ago. (Scalextrix).

Just need some cables buried in the road, and you could draw power as you drive along like an induction cooker... Probably wouldn't need them everywhere, but short sections of motorway could easily be fitted - especially good for HGV's.

Electric cars. Quick thought.

It doesn't make sense having batteries.
- They have to be charged up which takes time, cables etc.
- They are heavy and thus use a lot of energy being lugged around in the back of the car.

Why not have a huge Scalextrix set up or a conductor rod like dogem cars???
