16/11/2017 09:00 | Bloodhound "Hurricane has had three chairmen in less than two years, two finance directors in four years and in June 2014 another director, Keith Kirby, resigned." yes, I read that, and it's a very selective piece of observation. I could equally say; "HUR has had the same founding CEO for 12 years, and the current FD recently replaced the long serving FD on his retirement. The 2 other non execs have been on the board for almost 5 years, as has COO Neil Platt. The Bod has recently been strengthened by the appointment of Roy Kelly (and alternates) from Kerogen Capital" Does that sound better? | gengh15

15/11/2017 17:04 | Below are a couple of CA releases in recent months; whilst not evidence in itself, it suggests that Dr Arnott was CA's go to guy at HUR CA chairman William Collins said: "Most of the fund’s activism takes place in private, but we are willing to make our concerns public when appropriate." He added that Crystal Amber seeks to “release.. hidden or trapped value”. Mr Collins said that the response of management at companies the fund invests “has generally been encouraging”. Source: CA results press release 13th Sept 'The Fund is engaging with the Hurricane Board to improve the company’s governance and to release value'. Source: CA October shareholder letter Anyway, a bit of interest whilst we wait for our non moving ship to be refurbed and moved on to better use. | twixy
15/11/2017 15:48 | Growing pains! It was a little exploration company not so long ago. Now it's a giant in the making with (probably) billions of barrels of recoverable oil. Needs different players at the top! | hiddendepths
15/11/2017 15:31 | Gengh15 - "If anybody is treating a company like his own train set, it's Richard Bernstein" Not sure about that one at all Genh15. I think the growing list below says something about the way HUR is being run, RB aside: "Hurricane has had three chairmen in less than two years, two finance directors in four years and in June 2014 another director, Keith Kirby, resigned." 15/11/2017 14:17 | Hi FDH One interesting observation over on the LSE discussion board...Interesting speculation, and an entirely plausible explanation of what we know - but does anyone on LSE back it up with anything that suggests it's more than speculation?Peter | greyingsurfer
15/11/2017 13:38 | A lot of recent discussion on here and elsewhere essentially suggesting that the board spat has been over RB wanting to avoid short/medium term share price stagnation, whereas RT has a somewhat longer timeframe in mind. One interesting observation over on the LSE discussion board is that the Q3 presentation apparently indicated they were aiming for an appraisal FO in 2018 - reflected on the slides and in comments AS made to Bloomberg - whereas in the more recent Q4 slides they seem to be saying the plan is a FFD FO in 2019, which aligns with the recently reported drilling rig options for work early 2019. The suggestion is that RT instigated this move to a longer term strategy whilst RA felt an initial 2018 appraisal FO provided a more certain monetisation route (and RB agreed with RA, as he would.) RA’s resignation then allegedly arose from the view that - as RB put it to the Times - RT was more concerned with completing his ‘train set’ - i.e. was not sufficiently oriented to shareholder’s more immediate interests. Which then led on to RA’s resignation, the announcement of the new Board Committee to look at governance, a premium listing, etc. For now, the rest of the major shareholders and directors, not least Kerogen who are represented on the board, are seemingly behind RT. Given the amazing size of RT’s WoS ‘discoveryR BP’s Bob Dudley is clearly aware of Hurricane’s potential. The UK Oil and Gas Authority is clearly impressed too, witness their response to the Halifax out of round application. (How would they view any short term monetisation machinations, which led to a board upheaval that disrupted HUR’s technical progress? Exploitation of a resource this size is a major opportunity for UK tax revenues, energy security, balance of trade, etc.) Surely there will be one or two oil industry heavy hitters who have noticed all this as well and would relish the opportunity to chair the board over the next couple of vital years. Someone supportive of thorough full field exploration and comprehensive development without being blown around by short term city slickers. Fascinating to see who they get! | fardistanthills
