20/1/2017 14:49 | id be happy with either, ngms27. for an asset block sale rather than a takeover, for lancaster/linc/halif | leeson31
20/1/2017 14:39 | I'd think takeover more that farm out. I think the liquidity event will be this year. | ngms27
20/1/2017 14:39 | Kirtonender, Tech bubble, leverage...wasn't really needed was it, but it makes me shudder just thinking about it. Get that right and you could be up there with Buffett and Gates! Buffy | buffythebuffoon

20/1/2017 13:45 | Farmout / EPS FinancingAs noted in the Financial Review which follows, in order to finance the EPS the Company will have to either raise capital across the equity and debt spectrum and / or farm down a portion of some or all of the Company's assets. In June 2016, we temporarily suspended farmout discussions until completion of the Lancaster 7 Wells and subsequent analysis. We expect that the data room will be re-opened by the end of the year once all the data from the drilling campaign has been analysed. | gary38
20/1/2017 00:01 | GaryThe recent tech/Internet bubble was 17 years ago_ so hardly recent. I made a killing in that and didn't use leverage. But I have already stated I had the funds to pay for my T20 if I needed to. I often use the charts to determine my strategy. I have a core holding in HUR and use T20 for short term. | kirtonender9

19/1/2017 18:21 | The only difference that matters Gary is that the price of a property is not marked to market I know three millionaires and one ex millionaire who use/used leverage. The only one that used more than 2-1 leverage was the latter. It's about how much you gear up. You still need to pick the right investments, but leverage is good if you use it judiciously. Nearly every single rich man has used it. I use it, and achieved a far greater wealth than I would have without it. It sounds like you've used it injudiciously. Buffy | buffythebuffoon
19/1/2017 17:44 | It's a shame 'Geoff Capes' didn't read up on my opinion of EME. I took a lot of flack from some on that thread. It stuck out a mile that its asset was close to worthless. Much better here though! | rayrac
19/1/2017 17:34 | gary, about 8-10 years ago, there was a poster on the EME bulletin board named Geoff Capes. As I remember,he took out a large T20 on the back of a very positive RNS being imminent. Unfortunately, when issued, it was bad news and he lost £125k. I think he eventually had to remortgage his home in order to pay off the debt. Geoff, if you are still around using a different avatar, I wish you well and hope that you have been able to recover your finances. | the guardian
19/1/2017 17:13 | If you are looking at T+ trading because you do not have sufficient funds to trade on a normal settlement basis, or simply because you do not expect to hold the shares for more than 20 days, then I must counsel against either of these. If you don't have the funds, then this is very risky indeed. True in a bull market, people can make money, but as soon as the market turns these people frequently lose everything. Trading with money one hasn't got is the principal cause of the vast losses we sometimes here of. One form of this is known as margin trading. This is where people use the unrealised profits on stock they hold as security to borrow money to invest in yet more stock. However, if the stock being used as security goes down, and the profits no longer cover the loan, the broker will ask you to send a cheque to redeem the loan. If you do not, or can not, then he will sell shares in your original holding to realise the necessary funds. This whole process is known as a margin call. A significant number of people lost a lot of money margin trading during the recent Technology / Internet stocks bubble. Here is a link to a post which appeared on our US board which shows how quickly it can go wrong. | gary38
19/1/2017 17:04 | Excellent post Hazydaisy!I now feel fully reassured on my decision to invest in Hurricane. No doubt part of the criteria to be nominated for this prestigious award is for the board to guarantee a ten bad the following year. ;) | danieldanrichardson

19/1/2017 16:33 | So if a few people buy a large number of shares on a T20 and sell the shares before payday, they probably end up making a small profit at the expense of a fall in share price on their main holding. Crazy. | the guardian
19/1/2017 16:08 | When you buy on a T20 you do own the stock, otherwise how was I able to partake on the recent placing. I actually paid for the shares instead of closing, otherwise I wouldnt have been able to take part in the placing with the T20 shares. Regarding a mortgage if you fail to keep up your mortgage repayments then you could lose your house by repossession. | kirtonender9
19/1/2017 15:30 | Gary.......in order to operate a leveraged position you need to have funds in your account "your deposit" on your house if you will, you then open your "mortgage" position, so effectively you own part of the stock. | telbap
19/1/2017 15:19 | In my case I had the funds to pay for my T20 but took the decision to close and pocket the small gain available. The original intention was to sell at a profit within 20 days but would have held on if necessary. | kirtonender9
19/1/2017 12:09 | This is why I always have funds to buy to cover. i.e. I intend to buy but take advantage of the leverage product (e.g. like a credit facility for up to 18 days). I agree though - I do not T trade allowing myself to be in a position where my broker might "make an urgent call" to me to top up. Works for me as long as I stick to these rules but I remain "invested" for the serious amounts. | obmuj
19/1/2017 11:51 | Gambling with leverage products is worse than putting money on a horse/dog/sport ... because most people loss whats in there pocket and have not borrowed the money to gamble. | gary38 |
