FarDistantHills,Great article. It's true, deepwater horizon forced BP to launch an asset sell off. They made no bones about it, they were selling low margin capital-Intensive assets. This is unique to them amongst the major oil co's due to circumstances. They received more than what was on their books for most of them.I doubt other majors like shell will get anywhere near what they received.Cash

"investing at the top and cutting at the bottom"

I've been doing that for years, hopefully I've finely got it right with this one though.

Article here comparing BP and Shell:

Basically saying as I read it that Shell is busy digesting BG and to some extent bought it at the wrong time whereas BP was forced by Deepwater to divest asset at a "good" time and is now able to look at adding assets again?

"... preference for BP stems from the timing of cost cutting and investment by each firm... [Shell] has belatedly been cutting costs and canning projects, but its behaviour is cyclical, investing at the top and cutting at the bottom... [but] BP had been making cuts and selling assets far earlier, putting it in a better position to invest now."

Which to me sounds ideal for HUR, given BP's history West of Shetland?

Shells interests in Norway are subject to the very high taxation regime and have substantial decommissioning liabilities that will be attached. I would be surprised if they are even able to breakeven with those assets.

They have little bearing on Hurricane assets.

Hi Hopeful Holder.

Comparing Shell's assets with Hurricane's makes no sense. Just because they are both in the North Sea doesn't equate the assets. Also Shell are likely to own more aging assets which may be past prime production. Hurricane also is tapping a different kind of reservoir, which is looking to yield great rewards with less effort. I guess in answer to your question, this will mean nothing to Hurricane (in my opinion). The North sea is basically more expensive to drill than shallower waters which means slimmer margins if the reservoir isn't great.. with Hurr, so far so good! :)

Taken from oil price . Com• Royal Dutch Shell (NYSE: RDS.A) is mulling plans to sell $3 billion in Norwegian assets. Shell’s CFO said recently that its North Sea assets are “not the most profitable.I'm unsure what this would mean for Hurricane if this sake did / did not go ahead. Any views?

guardian hmm don't really know, see 660,292 sold in todays volume looks like a t20 closure then again saw a lot of buys showing C a few trading days ago could be using long settlement periods to keep share price in a range till consolidation of new issued shares are bedded in to the main stream of things ie to cut out retail quick profit

over on LSE they mention from end of month Hurricane Energy to be included
MSCI UNITED KINGDOM INDEX Additions I think HUR'S been selected to be included because of the momentum achieved over the last 6mths re mkt cap and the recent placing has helped considerably, it can indicate further momentum achievable, I will look up further

Really not sure but he has been selling steadily now for the last 3 months. If I hear will post accordingly.I have looked upon this situation as an opportunity to purchase shares here at an artificially low price imho.
