22/2/2021 20:28 | Totally agree Boystown - as a pensioner (just) dividends form an important part of my overall income. However the recently received bus pass was free! Suet | suetballs
22/2/2021 20:03 | I agree Suet, but the basic problem is that no-one likes shareholders. Personally, I’ve worked for several decades, saving and investing my money instead of spending too much and have arrived at the situation where I can just about support my family on the dividends. Because I’ve been sensible and foregone luxuries, I don’t qualify for any kind of benefits or furlough etc., but rely wholly on dividends from companies who can patently afford to pay them but which haven't been doing so - partly for good reason, but partly for political ones. After all, who wants to reward those self-seeking profiteering share dealers in this time of crisis? Meanwhile, handouts to everyone else and unbelievably high salaries to execs have become the norm. | boystown
22/2/2021 18:54 | For HSBC's fourth quarter update, UBS's Jason Napier said the key for investors would be the details around the lender's anticipated strategy refresh. Its previous plan, unveiled in February 2022, had called for return on tangible equity of 10-12% by 2022, based on a common equity tier one target of 14-15% with the payout set at 51 cents per share, but buyback frozen until 2022. As regards its financial performance for the three months to 31 December, Napier had penciled-in a decline in pretax profit to $2.01bn. The seasonal slowdown in markets revenues, low level in the US dollar and HIBOR rates and loan provisions were all expected to have dragged on HSBC's bottom line. For the comparable year ago period, the lender posted a pretax profit of $4.4bn. Although Napier highlighted the uncertainty around estimates for loan loss provisions, he added that he expected the balance sheet to remain "strong", penciling in a year-end common equity tier one ratio of 15.0%. Dividend payouts would nevertheless be limited by the curbs imposed by the regulator, Napier said. | geckotheglorious

19/2/2021 11:43 | UK Judge Says HSBC Doesn't Need to Hand Over Documents Requested by Huawei CFO 19/02/2021 11:15am Dow Jones News HSBC Holdings PLC doesn't have to hand over banking documents requested by Huawei Technologies Co. Chief Financial Officer Meng Wanzhou as part of her effort to resist a U.S. extradition order, a judge in London's High Court said Friday. Ms. Meng, who filed a lawsuit at the U.K. court, was arrested by Canadian police in 2018 on behalf of the U.S. Department of Justice, which has accused her in a criminal case of misleading HSBC about Huawei's business ties in Iran while the country was subject to U.S. sanctions. spud | spud
18/2/2021 21:06 | Hi suetballs, what do you think of BLM taking a holding? | ball deap
17/2/2021 08:06 | True - the lower ones probably aren't. And on this the Asia thing on HSBA does tend to mean more gaps than most. I don't really think they're a big issue - just that one of the previous posters here but mainly elsewhere, who is ridiculously deluded about his own brilliance (or lack of) has a particular thing about them, and being desperately immature as I am, I like to leave the odd wind-up behind... | imastu pidgitaswell
17/2/2021 07:29 | "(Except there's now a big gap...)" Gaps can't be in play on this one surely, if so, watch out for the ones down below at 3.10'ish and 2.80'ish. | kaffee
