27/6/2005 09:38 | I wonder where he is going? Anyone for an apple? | troutisout
27/6/2005 07:25 | And now the CEO leaves all of a sudden! Something not right here | lbo
17/6/2005 19:22 | With bigger fish to fry (AEN), I sold today having recouped my investment and a very small profit to go with it. Still a good bet for the patient. | azalea
17/6/2005 10:42 | perhaps others are doing the sums also... | ursus
14/6/2005 15:50 | I think the sector is warming up for some takeovers, to that end HWY is not going to be independent in the mid term. | azalea
14/6/2005 09:17 | if this co starts to pay out its income like the investment co it now is, then the yield gets even more attractive. even if the motor u/w only breaks even, the investment income looks to be a repeatable number over the years. paying out, say, 75% of profits gives a div of c 6p - and a yield of near 14%! | ursus
13/6/2005 18:35 | Nice chart developing | thecleaner
08/6/2005 11:04 | if, as i suspect, the bid for chaucer is aimed at their excellent motor syndicate in particular, then i can see that hwy comes back into the frame as a bid prospect again. | ursus
08/6/2005 07:38 | I'm very pleased that the bid from Chaucer was rejected now too. lol | little beaker
29/5/2005 07:53 | I'm very pleased the bid from Chaucer has been rejected, and the share price reflects that now. What a waste of money though for Chaucer - making a bid that stood little chance of success. Ultimately it will benefit HWY shareholders who will get a larger cut of the profits. | tiraider
24/5/2005 13:40 | This is what I like - share price rising despite volume of 'sells' outweighing 'buys' 12:1. correction: 8:1 | azalea
19/5/2005 07:37 | LBO, Go back to the original announcement on 4/1/2005 re. possible approaches, the scheme bought shares for the staff and directors on 16/12/04, are you telling me that the approaches all happened between then and the New Year. I think not, there were a few of them. | troutisout
18/5/2005 19:12 | Who cares, this is one of the most under-rated shares on the market and pays one of the best divis. I can't find anything better to buy. | thecleaner
18/5/2005 18:50 | Thats because the bid approach had been announced and was public knowledge therefore they could purchase. However, No new bid approach have been announced as I thought would have been!!....and the purchase today means no talks are ongoing! This is dissappointing IMHO as they said initially they were approached by multiple bidders! Where have they all gone? Or more to the point why? | lbo
18/5/2005 16:22 | LBO, If you look back the company share scheme has bought shares all the way through the last bid process, some of which are for directors. | troutisout
18/5/2005 15:54 | Well that puts a spanner in the works! They would not be allowed to buy shares if they were in talks or had been approached by anyone else. So looks like no other bidders are around for Highway. | lbo
18/5/2005 11:38 | more likely an appreciation of its earnings than a new bidder, i guess - but who knows...... | ursus
17/5/2005 20:20 | The share price keeps on edging up on healthy buys, can anyone guess why? | azalea
12/5/2005 12:27 | this earns almost 10p per share in investment income alone. margins may be tight in motor insurance, but so what! | ursus
10/5/2005 16:56 | Could we have a new bidder??? Starting to move back up! | lbo
20/4/2005 19:04 | Well Resolution 7 of the due AGM Ordinary B_usiness is to renew the authority to make market purchases up to 20,333,166 s_hares. That's what it says in my 'new format' R&A. By the way, why do c_ompanies DO this to their R&A's? It annoys me, what's wrong with simple bindings, thin paper etc? I always feel something unsatisfactory is going on when I get these bulked up R&A's. In fact the last time I saw an Insurance c_ompany change to this sort of production it was Independant Insurance... :( pvb | pvb
20/4/2005 12:07 | HWY should avoid a special dividend and do a share buyback. Given NAV/share is more than the share price, then if it spends £100,000 from its cash balances buying shares, the NAV of the company may reduce, but the NAV per share would increase even more and would also enhance EPS. Both these would further bolster the share price. | factsonly
15/4/2005 12:50 | In a research note today Numis says buy Highway Insurance(raising the target price of 45p from 40p) | lbo
15/4/2005 07:30 | I'm attracted by HWY as an asset play. However in 2 of the last 5 years it has made a loss; NAV has only grown by 48% (a compound rate of only 8% p.a); and the share price has been stuck in the 30-50p range the whole time. Is it not true that this company is really an investment fund whose performance is determined by the returns they get on their investments, with a small underwriting operation tacked on the side? | kiwihope
14/4/2005 23:16 | When this sank below 36p today, I thought, hey, that's a 7.5% yield ... and I bought some more. Gorse | gorse |
