17/3/2005 09:36 | Hm...i c yur point...but i c enuff buys going thru.. so there is interest..as i type another 50k...i cudnt c directors wanting share price to run away without itself while talks r ongoing..tad hard..shifting goalposts and all that..as someone said above..modest uptick on fav press..wud be expected. | badtime
17/3/2005 09:25 | sorry badtime - I was just trying to be a little balanced here.... There is no interest at 43p with these extremely bullish results - We should ask oursleves why? I think it is due to the fact that the takeover talks have already rallied the price (What was it in Jan?) and if these come to nothing, like Cox last year, they will fall back... | richiericher
17/3/2005 09:19 | Erm..bit like any business rich...wud u rather they weren't? Results seem to speak for themselves | badtime
17/3/2005 09:17 | Hmmm... Would the Directors not want to be as bullish as possible with takeover interest? Great results, but the market continues to be extremely competitive and volatile. Surely the real value of HWY today is what Chaucer/Fortis or others are willing to pay? | richiericher
17/3/2005 09:03 | And they have upped the dividend. LONDON (AFX) - Highway Insurance Holdings PLC has raised its dividend and flagged up 5 pct increases in payout in the next two years, after its full-year profit came in little changed from last year. The company also said it was continuing to hold "detailed discussions" on a possible offer. Highway made a full-year profit before tax of 21.4 mln stg, compared to 21.9 mln last year, with net earned premiums rising to 225.6 mln stg from 168.0 mln. It raised its final dividend by 10.1 pct to 1.85 pence, giving a full year payout of 2.65 pence, up from 2.48. tc | topinfo
17/3/2005 08:46 | A solid set of results with only a few months' contribution from the businesses acquired in the second half. The message coming through strongly is upbeat and positive and I believe we will see a modest rerating with the benefit of favourable press comment. The possible enhancement should the takeover talks come to fruition, seems to be a bonus thrown in for nothing. | iroll

17/3/2005 08:29 | did you see this just above? Highway is unique in its sector in applying FRS 17 in full. Had FRS 17 not been adopted net assets would have been #83.4 million (41.9p per share). | oniabsta
17/3/2005 08:22 | Just spotted a nice line in the announcement "Net assets were equivalent to 40.4p per share at 31 December 2004 (2003: 35.1p)", I'm tempted to top up. | factsonly

11/3/2005 21:29 | Results out on 17th March, should get an update on takeover or firm confirmation of offer and terms, and figures are expected to be good. Looks like this date may be turning point for HWY and could test some new highs very soon. | topinfo
09/3/2005 20:42 | I wonder if Norwich Union's bid for RAC will have any effect on HWY re valuation? Maybe NU are one of the intersted parties after HWY? It's all about gaining/buying motoring insurance customers. | tiraider
