dexdringle,the shorters borrowed and sold hbos shares and HAVE to buyback and return hbos shares.Once suspended they will no longer be able to do that.
I dont think flexible agreements are possible.

Why are we so obsessed with shorters closing before d-day ?

If I'd borrowed 1,000 shares and sold them at £3 each, the person from whom I had borrowed them would have been due to receive 605 shares in the new business. So, I just wait for the merger and then I buy 605 shares in the new group at my leisure to then give back to the original owners don't I ?

They have not sold shares they didn't have certificates for (phantom shares). They sold shares they borrowed (real shares)

I suspect that the shorters are way smarter than we think (well they are - they shorted !). The fact that they haven't closed yet means something. I reckon they are expecting to buy back new group shares sub £1 to honour commitment to whoever they have to return shares to...........???

Any comments ?
