15/5/2024 11:27 | So you implying the Government will take ownership of the yards ? Unlikely | ![]() john henry
15/5/2024 11:23 | Exactly JN - I don't think UKEF would countenance Gov money being risked without a substantial equity loss absorbing cushion in place first which will require Riverstone to do a D4E. It's probably just easier for Riverstone to take the company and do a private UKEF deal form that point. In either case current equity is zero but the yard and its HMG contracts live on. | ![]() loglorry1
15/5/2024 11:20 | I guess anyone who still holds the share today through so much evidence of mismanagement and decay has simply become impervious to any bad news. I hope they all realise that this, if true, would likely mean a permanent loss of 100 PERCENT. | ![]() ijamlon
15/5/2024 11:15 | The article says exactly what I would expect: The Government might bail out the yards to preserve the jobs but they've no interest in bailing out the company and its shareholders. | ![]() jaknife
15/5/2024 11:02 | Very surprised the share price is holding up that well on the news. | ![]() loglorry1

15/5/2024 10:37 | The loan guarantee was conditional on the company passing state-aid checks. However, a defence source said Hunt had given the go-ahead to officials this week to reject the company's application. | ![]() ijamlon
15/5/2024 10:36 | Jeremy Hunt, the chancellor, is expected to block a financial support package designed to keep the Harland & Wolff shipbuilding company in Belfast afloat, and government insiders have voiced serious fears that the 162-year-old firm could collapse as a result, marking the end of centuries of shipbuilding in the city. | ![]() ijamlon

15/5/2024 10:01 | He may well be right but I'd like to know how he knows because that sort of information is probably only available at board level. | ![]() loglorry1

07/5/2024 14:25 | They are offering free helicopter upgrades to those who had booked for May, sounds cheap. | ![]() millennialinvestor
06/5/2024 12:48 | JakNife, the issue is what happens to their finances when they no longer have a monopoly on their core product (Scilly ferry route) and have to pay the giant loan they just signed up for? Their finances certainly do look healthy now, but will they in 12 or 24 months time? That's the gamble here, that HARL out competes them and IOSSC can't pay their loan. Not saying I agree with it, it's not the right time to be making such moves in my view, and the delays to actually starting the ferry service aren't helping. | xenor |
