Excellent posting all! Thank you.

Sage, interesting allocations and thought processes - stimulated a few thoughts. Don't be prawn-ist though! (re down ticker - and I agree why would any one subscribe to find out who downticks!!)

The A, I like your punt, I thought along similar lines and resisted. I see some of the major shareholders would accept if BHP take out some hive-offs. I guess that tells the other potential bidders where they need to be. I'm a bit surprised they (the major shareholders) didn't fancy the company's strategy. But that is the market. I have been thinking of buying some of the majors, for yield and valuation. They fact that they are now bidding for each other tells you that the people closest to the sector think it is time to buy more assets and prepare for the upswing; rather than this just being an opportunistic bid. And they want to buy companies that will move the needle, not tiny companies. Any thoughts any one??

Intersting on GGP, Zoo, I did re-look, I couldn't see a catalyst, even reading between the lines. Heyho.

Sage

On the subject of copper, my largest holding (ignoring my short term fling with AAL) is ATYM. I'm up 50% since purchasing earlier this year but believe there may be a good bit still to come.

My reasoning is summarised in a recent post #17438 on the ATYM board.

It may pause to take a breather, but I'm confident that there is still a good deal left in the medium/long term.

Hi Up, I have been doing some research mainly driven by AAL into copper this weekend. I quite fancy global x copper etf as a diversified way to get into copper miners. I can see demand only going one way but am unsure which horse to back. On the basis of a rising tide lifting all boats the ETF will allow cheap access. I will probably pick up a small amount of AAL too. As my 75809 post said I am concerned that markets are somewhat stretched and thus looking for investments that offer growth potential where valuations are less stratospheric. I see copper as an indirect play on AI and renewable energy plus a resurgent China where underinvestment in mines has led to a projected copper shortfall. In which case miners will do well. AIMHO . Hi Mr Bee, I am not laughing. I used to hold AAL and sold with a decent profit. I expect another BHP offer. I intend to reinvest. Good luck

That's a very well thought out and professional portfolio that you've put together, Sage.

If I tell you what I've done with the proceeds of my GFM disposal will you promise not to laugh?

It won't take long to explain, because it all went into AAL!

And I don't anticipate leaving it in for long either. In fact it could be sorted out as early as 24th this month. Probably longer - I hope.

The BHP offer worth 27.5p has been rejected.

If BHP come back with a marginally increased offer of say 28p, I make 4%.

An offer of 30p and the profit goes up to 12%

And in the unlikely event of a final price of 32p (some such as JP Morgan say it's possible) the profit rises to 19%.

Of course if Glencore or Rio were to throw their hat in the ring, who knows what the outcome would be.

The downside is BHP might simply walk away!

A serious possibility, but one I'm happy to take a gamble on.

Perhaps you could ask Alan. He's been blindly doing it for years.

Hi Rose, thanks for the suggestion, appreciated. However, I don’t care who the individual is. I am satisfied that they know who they are and must feel somewhat of an idiot when they self appraise on a rational basis. I always say that the one person you sleep with your entire life is yourself. Ultimately we are each our own most discerning and honest critic. Did what you just do make you feel proud or do you feel like a bit of a prawn? We all look in the mirror and ask those questions irrespective of the views of others.

Having trimmed back my holdings in individual shares to circa 5% of my portfolio (cash aside) I am holding 10% physical gold, 40% Aegon high yield bond, 40% UBS Rafi and 10% China. The high yield bond fund is like cash on steroids. The Rafi is a global value play. China is a tilt to value too after 3 years of poor performance. I still like Europe and USA but decided to bank some gains and be a bit defensive. The only stocks I hold in any quantity are GFM, GGP, and Lloyds with the latter 2 increased recently. I am pretty much in defensive mode with funds at all time highs. For fun I have been playing Microstrategy asa play on bitcoin. The high yield bond fund is held in lieu of gilts on the basis that in a strong global economy companies should not default and high yield is less sensitive to interest rate surprises. So why not enjoy the better return. We all like to dabble but I thought investors might light to see where the lions share of my investments are placed. The Rafi is global large cap value such that the PE ratio is undemanding and should thus be resilient if markets profit take over the summer. I believe that gold will do well too but Imtrimmed it by 5% and put some in Blackrock Gold and General and Jupiter Gold and Silver. Hope this is an interesting read for some. GLA with your investments…May your wallet grow so large that you struggle to sit on it, lol 😂
