I'm certainly hovering now! No chance US institution picked up 7.5m worth at 50p expecting a steady rise to 57!

WAS hovering over the buy button.....maybe better to wait till Friday and see the small print. Other gaming shares don't seem to be affected to the same extent.

'One of the more controversial provisions in the measures would exclude from the action any casino or racetrack whose owner also controls at least 10 percent of a professional sports team.

The owners of several Atlantic City casinos, including the Borgata and Caesars, have a stake in professional sports teams. But Sweeney said Monday that he expected only the Golden Nugget to be affected by that language. Tilman Fertitta, a Texas billionaire, owns both the Houston Rockets basketball team and that casino.

A spokeswoman for the Golden Nugget did not immediately respond to a request for comment.'

IMO placing price was in the works well before the Paspa decision and subsequently felt quite low as a result of it. Nonetheless the level of the placing as compared to the mcap at 50p is significant. Interesting to see who it is once the website updates later this week.GLA

Got way too frothy, it was over 40% above the placing price.
I expect to see the placing price revisited before it bounces.

I think the fact that the proposed and indeed revised legislation (as I posted last night) will allow a 12 month period for those casinos to divest and remove that conflict does suggest that these casinos have been lobbying for such a clause to be included - that would allow them to apply for a sports gaming licence immediately

either way, the market ain't happy - though it could be simply the froth being removed

Froth coming out of the market in gaming stocks, also the regulatory path not so straightforward, but potentially a buying opportunity, if owners of sports franchises wish to participate in the opening up of the gaming market then they had better offload any responsibility with regard to conflicting interests, looks like GAN has one or two clients in that position!

No idea, but mcap of £40m seems pretty undemanding so perhaps an opportunity here as well

'The bill still seems to prohibit several casinos — including Golden Nugget and Borgata — from offering sports wagering. Both casinos have ties to professional basketball teams. Now, however, there is a path to them getting a sports betting license immediately, if the casino’s owners divest from the teams in the first year of having a license.'...

It seems these casinos have been lobbying hard and have been given 12 months to divest of their ownership

The problem is Noujay that the State want a quick implementation and that doesn't give too much time for compromise - it is going to come down to how much of an issue the Senate think excluding team owners from participating in sports betting is.The Pennsylvania fiasco you mention is another example of poor decision taking for the sake of getting something passed for the sake of it. They only got a Bill through by dangling big dollar revenue promises to congress. Now other states are introducing their own bills with much lower charges, Pennsylvania is going to have to revisit their own legislation to correct the ridiculously high entrance fees and tax levels which could easily take them 6-12 months and lose them a shed load of revenue.

Yes, everyone's jockeying for position - of course, the real rewards will be reaped by those who position themselves in the right place today with those material benefits coming through in a year or two

I don't see any way it will happen like that Mip, there may be some tweaking but everybody will be allowed to participate when all is said and done. The biggest issue to me seems to be the ludicrous Penn State tax. But even that will surely be renegotiated to a sensible level once things settle down. At the moment even in Penn casinos just want to crack on with the licenses and start taking bets.

It does seem slightly ridiculous that potentially three of the States seven casinos may be excluded from accepting bets if the Senate version prevails. Hopefully sanity will break out and a compromise will be agreed upon.

Yes, they've told the leagues to, erm, F-CK themselves sideways....hypocrisy doesn't even begin to describe their duplicity

Fairly succinct responses to certain aspects and a very clear desire to push forward quickly by the sound of it!

Senate version is a bit doom and gloom. Reality is likely to be compromises all round, IMO at least, e.g. those casinos whose owners own teams simply won't be able to take bets on those teams.

There must be a solution to that surely bearing in mind interested parties?
