02/7/2019 12:55 | Nod,My understanding (from chatting to KR at last year's agm) is that there will be a separate licence for the new LOTR series as new characters etc. So while GAW will obviously be bidding for the rights - it's not guaranteed. | cockerhoop
02/7/2019 06:51 | It was just announced here in New Zealand that Amazon has agreed to shoot most of the $1.5 Billion JRR Tolkien TV Series in NZ. Filming was shortlisted to NZ and Scotland. Brexit uncertainties went against Scotland, although some scenes may still be shot there. GAW still has the LOTR licence and the designs to many models. The target date for the Amazon TV Premier is later in 2021. So, it may be some time before we see any sales.Rumours are the storyline may start thousands of years before LOTR. This suits New Zealand's natural landscape. | nod
02/7/2019 04:48 | Prices going up in the USA from next Monday. Are they going up in all countries? Games Workshop: Price Increases Inbound July 8th | nod
01/7/2019 17:25 | I remember that article - it was terrible analysis. Like you say nod, TMF has many writers and variable quality. | crazycoops
01/7/2019 12:51 | I think MF assume because of the name in the title of the company, it must be similar! w1 | woozle1
01/7/2019 09:42 | W1, yes. I wrote on here at the time that they are not comparable businesses - other than the word "game" is in each. The Motley Fool has many writers and they don't always present a consistent opinion. | nod
01/7/2019 08:51 | They were right about Game Digital! | woozle1
01/7/2019 03:41 | I just found this clearing out my old emails. Posted two year sago to the day. Motley Fool has become bullish in recent months. By The Motley Fool 30 Jun 2017, 13:45 Outlook The prospects for retailers such as Game Digital and Games Workshop(LSE: GAW) appear to be rather bleak. The outlook for consumer spending remains tough and, realistically, things could get worse before they get better. Political risk remains high, and this could hurt business confidence and create a prolonged period of economic gloom. hxxp://www.aol.co.uk . | nod
30/6/2019 23:24 | A sustainable business should pass the 'Moat Test' as coined by Warren Buffett. "The Economic Moat is the competitive advantage that one company has over other companies in the same industry. The wider the moat, the larger and more sustainable the competitive advantage. By having a well-known brand name, pricing power and a large portion of market demand, a company with a wide moat possesses characteristics that act as barriers against other companies wanting to enter into the industry." I'm re-posting this as a reminder of our competitive advantage. . | nod
28/6/2019 15:48 | I think we're aggressively agreeing with each other. | steptoes yard
28/6/2019 03:00 | I don't see any similarities between a model manufacturer today and a bank 13 years ago. Distinctions or contrasts have more meaning when applied to entities within a class. | nod
27/6/2019 20:02 | I think the writer was trying to explain the distinctions !! | steptoes yard
27/6/2019 09:09 | Robin, I hope being compared to Northern Rock in 2006 is not an omen. | nod
27/6/2019 07:15 | And also this one albeit one can only access part of what is still a large write-up. | shanklin
26/6/2019 20:14 | This is a good piece on Games Workshop. Worth reading: | robinnicolson
25/6/2019 04:55 | Motley Fool Royston Wild | Monday, 24th June, 2019 I’m also considering loading up on some Games Workshop Group (LSE: GAW) shares before numbers for the fiscal year ended May are disclosed. It really has been a quarter to remember for the FTSE 250 firm, a leading light in the field of miniature wargaming. Its share price is up by a staggering 55% in the second quarter thus far, helped by the release of another solid update in early June in which it declared that sales and profits kept on chugging higher — and across all channels, too — since it informed the market a couple of months earlier. Was anyone expecting anything different, though? I’ve lauded Games Workshop’s dominant position in a specialised retail segment, and one which commands fiercely-loyal legions of fans the world over, giving it some excellent protection during tough economic conditions. The fantasy giant is expanding its global footprint at a rate of knots, unsurprisingly, setting it up for some serious profits growth in the years ahead too. For the moment, Games Workshop’s expected to print a 6% earnings rise in fiscal 2020 and to raise dividends again, resulting in an inflation-stripping 3.2% yield. I don’t care about its high forward P/E ratio of 24.6 times. In my mind, it’s a brilliant long-term income play to snap up today. Full read: | nod

15/6/2019 08:53 | Re the paints. This is from the last annual report."The hobby products studio makes some of the best paint and tabletop miniatures support product in the world. Our Citadel paint range and its revolutionary system are used the world over - and for painting more than just Warhammer! " | nod

14/6/2019 08:32 | All this reminds me of something I had forgotten about, the joy of all those airfix models 40 yrs ago, Lancaster bombers, rockets even badass dinosaurs. Anyway the world of "miniatures" in 2019 is far greater than I ever imagined, crikey. And what a company. | steptoes yard
13/6/2019 20:54 | Paining these models well is a tricky process involving several layers & fiddly highlighting. The idea of these new paints is that they create a natural highlight, so the surfaces look textured and interesting instead of flat, with only one coat. There's lots of stuff on youtube explaining, here's a good one: | push n run
13/6/2019 20:28 | I don't want to rain on anyone's parade but how does the paint speed the process please ? | glaws2
13/6/2019 15:51 | The videos on that page are wild! This is teaching boys about makeup skills. So many colours required, this is really canny marketing. | epo001 |
